This is why I (a cyclist) hate some motorists UPDATE DEC'12

I for one will call the police what they are in this one case. Idiots
When they had a bloody video that clearly showed the assault, the numberplate of the assailants car, And had multiple witnesses. There is no way it should have taken 11 months to apprehend this driver.

Bigdog that is a bit over the top and unfair on the Police. From my experience they tend to apprehend and charge the suspect very early on, it is the CPS/Proc Fiscal and Courts who drag the case on for months and months but for some reason people blame the Police who patrol the streets for this, which is completely unjust as once the charge is made it is out of their hands and off to the next department (CPS/Proc Fiscal). The hatred for Police and calling them idiots is slightly over the top, in fact they took statements quickly and had this guy charged within weeks so I think on this occasion that's a job well done by them.

Well done a11y and thanks for updating

.....just a thought, maybe a contender for post of the year :D

Woody to be fair to Big Dog he's a US citizen temporarily residing in Germany so he may not be familiar with our justice system

Good for you mate, shocking behaviour - the guy should be banned from using the road with other people!

Can't see the vid right now cos of crap broadband here but well done getting the prosecution. Dangerous Driving can carry quite a heavy penalties - his Christmas present might be resitting his driving test I'd say!

On a different note, yesterday morning going to work (just getting light) I saw a guy on a mountain bike with no lights pull out of a side road in front of a guy with lights on a racing bike almost knocking him off!! He didn't even look when he came out of the road! :o

Is anyone familiar with our justice system? It's very unpredictable....

That's a good one stark. Same in the Colonies as well. Rather hit and miss. More miss than hit though.

I probably should have clarified by saying the justice system. In the US we equate the police and prosecutors as nearly the same. In this case as it was a vehicular assault with a video and witnesses. I doubt a judge in the US would have even allowed a delay because of such over whelming evidence. In the US he would have been jailed immediately upon arrest as this was a violent crime and not just a traffic offense and would have had to await a bail hearing. If bail was denied. He would sit in jail till his trial.

Great to hear, had been wondering where you were with this...

I was a witness to a knocking off, and that took an entire year to go to court. and as a witness I still don't know the outcome :o

Just to conclude this all, I received info for the Procurator Fiscal that the driver pled guilty to a lesser charge of careless driving. £200 fine and 3 points.

Part of me (a small part) is happy he got some punishment.

The other part is f**king raging that this a**ehole got off with the same punishment you'd got for doing 35mph in a 30mph limit.

Quite how that can be seen as careless and not dangerous driving I'll never know...

Yes - I guess the good part about it that he did not get away with it and that his insurance will go up as well now.

Surprised he got careless... I've seen much worse get away with careless, it's all wrong. As said his insurance will go up, but what this guy needs is a ban and a bicycle.
