This is why I (a cyclist) hate some motorists UPDATE DEC'12

A11y are you ok? Are you ok A11y? (sorry) Very glad you're not injured, it could have been very different if a vehicle had been coming towards you. I work in a major trauma centre and see cyclists with life changing (or even life ending) injuries at least once a week. I would visit the police later today with a copy of your video and demand that he be pursued and prosecuted. If you meet resistance from the desk sergeant I would follow up with a letter by recorded delivery (or one from your solicitor) and escalate the situation as necessary through your local press and MP (or should that be MSP?) until the police do as they should. This chap deliberately caused an accident that could have ended you life. There is no reason to suppose that he will not repeat his actions the next time someone offends him. The great shame is that you can't see his face on the video. If the police try to claim that this is a reason not to prosecute, remind them that most cities have so many CCTV cameras that his face will be visible somewhere on his journey. For this reason, time is of the essence to ensure the footage is available. It's important that you are appropriately compensated but even more so that he is prevented from repeating his stupidity

Also, if you do find any bits that hurt or aren't working properly do see your GP as injuries can sometimes take a while to manifest.

Lastly, I'm sure you are absolutely furious about this, I know I would be. You will start to feel better when he gets his comeuppance!

a11y - glad you're ok. Shocking behavior from the driver before he hit you, even worse that he actually hit you, and the fact he left the scene of a an accident is worthy of a lengthy driving ban if not short term at Her Majesty's Pleasure

Glad you are OK and covered by CTC Insurance. As a cyclist myself I'm aware of the odd ignorant motorist who think they own the highway. :x

Find him, flog him, and then run his own car into him. Simples.

Glad your physically OK A11y, but don't let this go, hunt the bastard down.

Shocking mate, glad you're ok. I hope you get some compensation for your losses and the guy gets charged.

If you want an "enthusiastic" medical report of your injuries, you only need to ask ;-)

If you don't ming me asking a11y what did you take the video with ?

What a complete C**K ! He deserves whatever you can throw at him - looks completely un-provoked so surely he has a serious case to answer.

The witnesses will surely add to your case - personally I think you should make his life as difficult as possible - had U not been wearing a helmet he could (without getting dramatic) have killed you.

Nail the To**er ! :fuelfire:

I guess it would be more appropriate that - should I need one - it comes from a non-family member

Details of similar cameras to what I was using are in this thread: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=29523&hilit=camera&start=15#p402809

My exact camera used on my bike helmet is shaped/sized like a packet of Polo's, but the picture from other ones seems better. This is from my £6.49 one:

A11y,

This is shocking and also as some who likes 2 wheels on pedals it makes me sick, am really glad your ok  , I would really go after this guy big time....

I would like to ad addtional charge to this, he has also driven away from a scene of an accident this is in itself a very serious criminal offence and is looked at very dim form the plod.

So get your case together and get him, your actions might make a big difference in your local area! may even save a future accident ... or worse via public awarness

A11y - really glad you're okay... That is truly loathesome behaviour, and I hope your brief not only throws the book at him but jams it where the sun don't shine

A11y - very pleased you're not injured mate - agree with most comments so far - keep a structured, calm approach and strongly consider getting a lawyer to help - it can make a huge difference to response. It's dispicable that any driver, any human being, thinks this kind of behaviour is in any way acceptable. Good luck with pursuing. J

Front page of The Times this morning is an article on the campaign for improved bike safety in cities because of Mary Bowers, The Times reporter, who remains in a coma after being run-over by lorry outside the papers offices last November, perhaps it is worth sending them a digital copy of the video.

As a motorist, driving and working in a city, I sometimes get frustrated by cyclists, however there is absolutely no justification for that knuckle heads actions and he should rightfully be punished.....glad that you are okay, now sue the b*$tard

good luck with your case

I would vary my route for the next few days, change the jacket. If the old bill have contacted the driver there is no profit in being in the same place and same time so the mor*n can either ID you or give you a proper running over.

I am pleased you were unsquashed.

Thanks.

I'm already thinking that way: it won't do my health/safety any favours by putting myself in the vicinity of this eijit for a few days/weeks. Luckily I was travelling in at a different time to usual yesterday - i'm usually 30mins before or 30/45min later, so unless he changes his pattern I shouldn't encounter him again.

No word from the police. That's 24hrs up now so if he's not reported the incident then that's another charge I'll be asking them make.

I know I said the same thing, but this one isn't so easy. If my memory serves me right, I believe its only an offence if someone was injured or if third party property (not a vehicle) was damaged. Not sure what the bike counts as but I think Ally should develop a limp or something pronto.
