I wonder if the dealer knew the car had issues, but let it go out knowing that the warranty would cover the cost.Saves them loads in prep charges ,but really pisses customers off. 20 years ago I worked for a used car dealership that sold a Jag with a knackered steering rack,they had it welded up (bodged) and told the customer to bring it back a month later for it to be booked into the local jaguar dealer to be done unter the warranty they put on the car.Really poor practise, but I bet it goes on all the time.Shame you've lost faith in BMW, I've had mine for 3.5 years with no issues apart from a broken spring.

Sitting here depressed and carless having bought my Zed from what I thought was the most trusted source a BMW Dealership at the end of November, 8 x weeks later I have returned the car and got my money back.
It is a long and tortuous story which frankly I'm too frazzled to go into. The car has been back to the dealers three times and with the threat of a fourth and being lied to twice, I had one last sleepless night then phoned them to stop any further work and to refund my money.
Unfortnately this has put me off Zeds and I'm going to go back to the Japanese side of the tracks which has never let me down.
I have bought many new accessories which I no longer need starting with the half outdoor BMW OEM cover which I've only had eight weeks and was bought from Sopers for £84.59 . Any decent offers will be accepted and I will probably put up a seperate post with a pic if anyone needs it.

Hey fella, read the whole thread... sounds like you originally bought a FRIDAY LEMON car.
Have owned many Jap cars before, they all set the standard for reliability. Bought a second toy back in 2005, a 114,000 mile MKII MR2 T-Bar. Engine sounded like a well oiled sewing machine, put a further 25k on the car, sold it to a mate who put another 40k before changing the cambelt himself... then went pearshaped... but managed to get it going & chopped it in for govenment's scrappage scheme... said it was best car he ever owned & otherwise never let him down regardless of the abuse.
