Had my Z now for nearly a year and I still love it! However.... The lure of the Porsche is calling! Ive been looking at a Cayman (specifically this one)http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201051375737506/sort/priceasc/usedcars/model/cayman/make/porsche/radius/60/page/1/postcode/yo434bw?logcode=p

What do you think? Should I stay or should I go? I love the Z but problems after problems means im getting abit P'd off with it!

Hi,

Your link doesn't seem to work on my ipad...is that an S or a standard Cayman? I thought you'd been reading my thread saying I'm changing to a CS next week...so you know my answer :D

Got the link working now - looks like a nice example and fair price for year/mileage...do it

up to u dude- but i cant see the lure of that car- ugly and old fashioned looking- not a future classic in anyones eyes?!

I really really like the cayman! If I could afford to buy and run one I would! I think the running costs, servicing, parts and insurance would be considerably more than the z4 though!

I was considering the Cayman S at the same time as the Z4MC. But one of the factors that made my mind up was the fact that the Cayman S was about £5k more than a similarly spec Z4MC, which put it into M3 CSL territory.

I was really nervous about the insurance switching from a group 16 Z4 worth about £8k to a group 19 Caymen S worth £35...amazingly it came out slightly cheaper!!! Wasn't going to argue though :P

3.0 Z4 is group 19 but getting a quote on a 35k car would be scary

You're right, the 3.0 Z4 is group 19 so that would explain a lot. I see the insurance groups have just changed from 1-50 instead of 1-20 so I've only gone from 44 to 45 8)

MY 2 cents: I am not sure I would move from a Z4 to a cayman based on reliability. In the Porsche you have the widely known IMS/RMS issues, so would not buy one unless had a good warranty. On this particular example, even though the wheels look nice, they are imo too big for the power of the 2.7 engine.

Caymanwise, I'd prefer a 2005/06 cayman S, even if it had less extras.

I owned a Boxster S and it didn't "feel" as well built as my Z4. If anything, I would go for a 911 since it is the Porsche icon and I like the looks better too. Sorry to hear your Z4 has given your problems. Mine has been excellent for the five years I've had it.

Finally, my exposure to various Porsches over the years leaves me feeling that they are great cars, but substantially over-priced due to the Porsche name. Z4 Pilot

After a very long trackday at silverstone with a boxster spyder, i can say it was freakin awesome!!! Handling and grip blew me away...... If ther was an easy way to 500bhp i would be all over one!!

The Caymans a nice car,tho my mate had a boxster, and had a few issues, plus servicing costs are excessive,if u want to keep the Porsche s/h.
Ithink a good 3.0i with non-rtf's and a strutbrace/or an m,are equal to or better than the porsches, imho. plus, when i bought mine back early 07,for £20-22k,u would have been looking at least a 3yr older boxster. not worth the extra cash,if u ask me. though i am sure u will enjoy it. :driving:
