Thinking about trading the Z4 in for an A5. Thoughts?

I've had the Zed for a few years and I've been with BMW cars for nearly 15. Any thoughts on the Audi A5? I would probably get the 2.0t manual, sport package. I just don't know. I am very familiar with BMW's and find them easy to work on and own. But the A5 is just a gorgeous car. I've driven the 3.2 and its ok, but I liked the 4 pot turbo better. Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

Thought these looked stunning when they came out but have dated badly and recent facelift is not a success in my eyes... Not special enough .. 3 door A4.

The swmbo test drove a couple her opinion was lovely interior but dull to drive
Went for a 3 series instead

a5 coupe lover here and like you have owned bm's for many many years. just love the shape and its the way the 3 series coupe should look,, curvy not angled.

VW's suck :o
best cars pound for pound i have ever owned . paint quality on the VW's i have had has been far superior to any other car manufacturer .
i agree they don't have the "kudos" & badge appeal of the highbrow german marques but i can't have Hitler's finest moment shot at without giving some defence :D
my biggest gripe with Audi's is the price . just how they managed to hike their prices over BMW & Merc is a marketing achievement 2nd to none .
used car- wise if you get the price right Audi's can be a fantastic motor for performance & build quality

Maybe I am being too harsh, the TT has been the only VW we have owned but its put us off for life, everyone has different priorities when it comes to cars & I enjoy an involving steer & they fall very short for me, I agree though the paintwork is leagues ahead of Beemer though, but that's not too difficult! :)

involving steer  c,mon Lee . we had a facelift 520d tourer that we put up with for 5 months .
without question the most lacklustre BMW ive ever owned & not a patch to drive as our Golf GT tdi which we replaced it with .
& the 520 wasn't even economical :)

I am with you all the way, the 520d is a serious turd especially the engine, you can imagine my disappointment when I went from my V8 x5 into the 520d I was gutted but the fuel bills ruined me as it was my daily so it had to go.

But even saying this if you said I can have the keys to the TT or the 5 series I would use the 5 everytime the TT is fast but completely dull, the 5 series engine is diabolical but I prefer it to drive everytime it gives you feedback through the steering something a VW could never achieve, fwd cars don't excite me in the slightest & even though the TT is Quattro it still understeers like mad just like every other dull VW!

Our mistake was to buy a four pot engine & notice the two we have are both let downs...more cylinders equals more fun :)

We keep having these discussions between Audi and BMW with their different philosophy's, which at the end of the day is down to what you want from a car.

To me the A5 is a lovely looking car in S Line trim and I would have one especially the 3.0 TDi convertible, but they are expensive, even more so when you start on the options.

Hi,

The Audi is a front wheel drive car which does its job well.

There is only 1 model/version I would consider for everyday driving and that would be the A5 S Line Special Edition after June 2010 as that year they made a host of subtle upgrades(Y wheels and the all important Bang & olufsen sound system and improved Milano leather, DAB, and some other small things).

If buying an Audi, only consider a diesel engine namely the 2.0TDi which is very refined.

The 2.7 and the 3.0 are pretty good engines but not economical.

I would never buy petrol. (any make).

For an approved 2.0L TDi S line Spec. Edn expect to pay around 23K for a really low mileage post June 2010 one, approved.

Pay around 19,950 for an 09 with 20K miles.

Around 18K for 40+K miles.

Sport or SE versions are not sought after and dont command premiums.

I did around 1,000 miles in one about two years ago. I liked everything about it though I've got to agree with the guys above, it was one of the dullest cars I've ever driven. Personally I'd only consider it if I only planned on using it for motorway driving, as it failed to ever put a smile on my face, even on awesome B-roads.

If you're only doing low mileage in it, then buying a small light petrol is still the way to go. In overall costs diesel economy doesn't kick in until you're doing uber-miles in my experience. If you're buying second hand (like I'd be) there's a few scare stories (and they probably are just that) about the cost of replacing DPF's, turbo's, or the direct/high pressure/common rail injector systems etc as the diesel lumps get friggin complicated. Sadly you'll never ever know how the previous owner treat it either (revving from cold, not letting the turbo cool etc, continual urban driving never regenerating the DPF etc).

Sorry for the thread hijack. Back to your A5's...

yeah i have some thoughts :

you should be executed for betrayal !! :fuelfire:
:poke:

no just kidin' if you feel the need to change do it, but remember that some wise men from the Z4 forum told you, you''re going to miss you Z ;)
