Think I’ve been been caught doing 30 through a 20...

Was driving along this morning minding my own business on Stratford road (if anyone knows it - the way into Birmingham from Stratford) in spark hill

As far back as I can remember it’s been a 30 zone and people drive 35-40 most of the time (not excusing speeding in a 30 zone here so please don’t get me wrong)

Anyway, back to the story - 8am Saturday morning, dry weather, very minimal traffic and I see a Toyota iq in the distance parked up with a camera sticking out the top. Weird I thought... but it wasn’t until I got past it that I realised it was a “traffic” enforcement car

Is this likely to be a speed camera type car?

I was doing bang on 30mph on my speedo as I thought it was a 30 zone - will I get a ticket? :(

You may find the car is a road tax checking vehicle, you may be lucky as my daughter says some 20 zones are at school times only. Best go back and check to see if it is a 20 zone :|

Yup prob anpr or some councils use them to ticket people stopping where not allowed or on double yellows.

If it's one of those "20mph during school times" zones, then it's only a recommended limit, you cannot be done for still doing 30,even at school times, unless there is a TRO (traffic regulation order) in place.

Hmm I did think it was weird having a speed camera in a Toyota iq’s Roof?!

Yeh it’s taxed and insured, I wouldn’t drive it without!

You will be OK Ryan, just keep an eye on your speed and your surrounding mate. These 20 zones are popping up more and more now...Oxford city council love them

Check the colours of the signs. Many 20 are "advisory" and not the correct sign colours... therefore not enforceable.

There’s no signs anywhere, the road itself is painted with a white “20” circled only once from what I can see. That’s all... in my opinion it’s clearly silly to be a 20 zone, as it’s a main transport route, but at least I’ll be mindful in future!

Thanks all!

Hopefully just checking Tax & Insurance, we get those a lot on the way in to work at the yard.

I think they are just ANPR cameras - see them all the time when I'm in the London Borough of Sutton, so hopefully you'll be OK.

They also have plenty of 20 mph zones, but most people don't take much notice of them - I have too as there are speed humps everwhere as well and the Z doesn't like those! :headbang:

Went to central London last weekend, the 20 zones drove me nuts on those huge big roads which are completely empty. Total nonsense and really irritating. Bike are overtaking you as well which makes it really annoying.

If you don't get a summons(NIP) through the post within 14 working days then your fine. Worth checking a website for motorists previously suggested by Carol on this site called Peppipoo. Yes it sounds silly but all you need to know is on the relevant forums. It's got me off a couple of local authority tickets and parking charges.

They're definitely only checking for parking offences and tax. We have them down here. The council owns them, so nothing to do with the police.

Stop worrying, you sound like my other half haha

If there is no proper speed limits signs (correct colours in accordance to Highway Code etc), there are no 20mph limits.

You often see them with colours reversed and such.

Sure I have read somewhere that legally 20mph speed limits are unenforceable and only advisory?
