The Wheel Specialist

http://www.fawheels.co.uk/

This place offer an exchange basis so you won't have to leave your car with them for too long. They quote £288 for 108s on EBay. They also powder coat the outer rim which is more hard wearing. End product looks really good from they're pictures..

Hey guys just an update from me.

Had mine done this morning in Newcastle took 6hrs in all had 3 wheels done two were mine (CSL) and one was off my cousins 1 series. At a cost of £100 per wheel including VAT.

Got to the place to pick the car + wheels up (quite excited), and well to tell you the truth look awful. My dad has called the appearance as an orange peel. They were quite cagey as one was passenger front and the other was driver rear, they took all four off and put the two refurbs on the same side (heres me wondering if they are the same colour). Before I went in to pay I checked them over and the finish is not even all the way round it looks like bubbles before lacquer, mostly in the spokes. I was called by the owner to come collect and obviously there was no quality control on the wheels what so ever, as a professional in media there is no chance I would allow a product to go to a client without it being spot on it ruins reputation and gets the clients back up. Im guessing they were trying to pull a fast one. So when I went to pay I said I needed to see someone about the finish of the wheels.

Few minutes later this really nice bloke came out to have a look. I showed him and he was absolutely fuming, he then went on to tell me that they had had a new gun installed and it was not operating properly, after a few expletives to the owner from the tech, he said they would do the again and for free. I turned to him and said fair enough but one problem I live 100 miles away so a 200 mile trip and 400 for two trips, I also took the day off to get them sorted. Also if they knew the gun was not operating properly why continue? I hate to think about everyone elses wheels that were in there.

To put it plainly I wasn't upset, I was pissed off and disappointed but they put their hands up and will sort it when the time is convenient with me and they will be done for free. I had a really nice day out with the GF went shopping went to the baltic contemporary art gallery, had a really nice slap up meal and it was a really sunny hot day. So probably why im not quite as mad as I usually would have been.

Only thing I was pissed at was I felt like they were trying to pull a fast one... its just not cool, Im sure not everyone is as anal as me but I suppose just be careful. Im sure this was a one off but still. Will update when I have had the wheels re-redone.

On a more positive note the actual work on the curbing was brilliant not a mark (although it wasnt bad anyway was a very minor scuff). The wheels were also acid bathed and sprayed properly (there is no physical bobbles in the paint that are raised purely aesthetic and they did the inside, which when I had my OEM wheels redone by BMW they didnt... typical stealer. The place was also very professional it was spotless and all the cars in there were expensive, not your average joes.

So not to put anyone off, the guys were really nice helped with directions and were very nice about doing them again.

Sorry for the rant. Will update soon.

I'm back in Newcastle today to have my wheels re-done they have been nothing but helpful and have given me a huge discount because of the issues first time round will update later with some pics :)

Thanks RustyZ4,

Ill give them a call but Kent is a bit tricky to leave the car with them and still get to work (west london) etc.

You could try Platinum, they're in Swindon so easy train links to West London.

A number of people on here (e.g. Stuart Truman, 2AlpsAde) had used them and been impressed so, a couple of weeks ago, I got them to do a full refurb on my Alpina Dynamics to take them back to proper Sparkle Silver (OEM colour) and they made a lovely job of them.

My local dealer sycamores in Peterborough quoted £85 per wheel. They had to do a wheel for free for me after I bought the car and did a first rate job.

Is this a main dealer? Reason I adk is that I was told mine farms them out to a wheel specialist, which suggests margin stack!

Cheers.

Reading some of these posts I reckon I've been very lucky - my 108's were all refurbed at my local bodyshop - two had fair a fair amount of corrosion and the fronts had some kerbing. They separated all the rims ( as a matter of course without asking ) sandblasted the insides and painted/lacquer finished including the insides - total cost £220 - he gave me a special price because of all the work he's done for me over the years on previous cars ( due to my ocd in keeping cars as near perfect as I can )

I would have been mightily pissed off if I had been in Tom's place - hope it 's all sorted mate.
