The Wheel Specialist

I was intouch with them a coupla weeks back about my 108's, they must've recently got busier as they were nagging the crap outta me for the business. They were quite expensive compared to this firm i eventually went with...

Diamond Wheels are a tiny business, based out of a filthy lock-up on an indsutrial estate in Stockport, but he did a superb job for me. I'd highly recommend them

There is a company in kent called lepsons that are supposed to be quite good, they quoted me £415 to refurb my 108`s, have you guys had any prices, be interested to know. thanks.

Not had any prices yet - mine are 108s too, front 2 quite badly damaged due to kerb hits while i was getting used to the long nose... Ill look into lepsons as well - you got a link at all?

Diamond wheels did my two rather badly corroded rear wheels for £150, £50 cheaper than The Wheel Specialist. This included removal of tyres, taking the rims apart, chemically stripping them, blasting and powdercoating. My wheels were returned in perfect condition within 3 days. I think it would've been an extra £30 per wheel for the polished rims too. I'll be taking my two front wheels to him in the next 6 weeks.

Finally managed to get a quote out of the wheel specialist:

"you would be looking at £55 + vat per wheel = £258.50 - 25% discount = £193.87

Strip/refit/rebalance tyres £15 + vat per wheel = £70.50"

The discount because I mentioned this site :) Unfortunately contrary to their website they don't have an operation near to me :(

I have had another quote from a mobile service Smart Alloy Refurb of £60 a wheel.

What does anyone think?

Might be worth a call//

Thanks RustyZ4,

Ill give them a call but Kent is a bit tricky to leave the car with them and still get to work (west london) etc.

Ive fixed the link to smart alloy refurb as well

I looked into the mobile refurb thing too, and came to the conclusion that they can't possibly have chemical stripping facilities in the back of a transit van. But I guess it depends on how bad you're alloys are. If it's just a bit of kerb damage as you say i reckon they'd be OK, but if you want them looking like brand new again, as i did, then i'd definitely choose to go to a place with premises and equipment designed to do the job. There are no details on their 'site' to explain their process of refurbing so it's very difficult to say whether they are any good or not. Plus the shot they show looks as if they've just done a bit of polishing. There's no real damage or corrosion on that example as far as i can see.
I'd recommend (depending on the damage/corrosion), getting your wheels to a place where they have facilities to split the rims apart, have them chemically stripped, blasted and repainted, which I can't see happening with a mobile repair, it'll be well worth the extra time and money. My 108's will last for years now *smug mode* :)

As I have the split rims, I was advised that re polishing the edges will not last very long, and should be finished as the rest of the alloy (by Lepsons btw) he does do a nice finish in black chrome!! as well, mine need re furbing, but thought I would leave it till spring, when they stop putting all that corrosive crap on the roads,,

So any places that do it would be quite interested in, I thought Lepsons £415 for all four was a bit pricey,, but two other places I have tried have recommended me back to them, still i`ll keep looking. :headbang:

Lepson's have quoted 110 + VAT per wheel as a rough over the phone quote, slightly more I think because I would have to leave the car with them while they do it. I have emailed them some photos of the damage for a more accurate quote. I was hoping for something a bit closer to home but they do seem the nearest. It does seem false economy to just touch them up like with the mobile service etc. But on the other hand if you pay to have 'em done nice then damage them the next day again :( That's life i suppose though!

Good point about the spring though, maybes Ill wait a bit longer.

The quote I got from them included me leaving the car as well,, but it did not include VAT. If you decide to go with them I do not live to far away, so if you wanted a lift home let me know.

Fanks mate - Ill keep you posted :) though Im sure I could talk the other half into visiting her parents in Kent & using our other car.

Old Thread I know, BUT...

Just dropped the car off this morning at TWS (Manchester), to have the 108's refurbished, gone with powdercoat allround. Rims metallic silver (TWS Sport 1) and centres flat silver (TWS D Sport).

Lady there (Donna) very helpful and appeared knowledgeable. Quoted £600 inc. (Ouch :o ), collect in 3 days.

Will post pics upon the cars return.

I used TWS (Leeds) on my Z3 and my son's mini. Excellent results. Brian and his wife that run the place are great people.
We are fortunate in that they are fairly close but one of the guys on ZNet couriered his split rims up from Cornwall!
I would have no hesitation in recommending TWS but any form of split tin wheels are not cheap !

I have used them a few times, and we get a fair bit of discount being trade..

Always done a great job,but they are more expensive than most.

I always ring up on Saturdays as cant abide talking to Donna, she makes my tits itch...

Highly recommended from the Grizzwald. Check out my wheels. £444 for 4 wheels and one was buckled and cracked. All scuffed to buggery. Got mine done in M2 colour. They're very knowledgeable and know what they're talking about.

mine are 19"s and i caught one very minor and the other has got scuffed some how but its £80+vat so £96 a wheel having two done £192

But they are similar to Lepsons they acid bath sort damage then repaint them to manufactures specs and have a good rep. Only prob is i have to have it there for 7.30am and can't pick it up till 5.30 so thats a long day without a car. Having to travel to Newcastle too. Nearest place to me.
