The Waiting Game..

Seems like a few folks cars are getting closer now!

Does it really take 8 working days to get from the vehicle delivery centre to the dealership? :o

Kev - good news yours is so close! Must be a little bit annoyed you've just missed out on all the excellent weather though. Who are you using to detail yours?

In related news - mine is now officially 'in production'

I think it will take a little longer with mine as there is the bank holidays to take into account. I actually know a girl who works at the distribution centre in Thorne. She's off work until Wednesday but she's taken my order number and is gonna go check on it for me on Wednesday.. Might see if she will sneak me a couple of photos

The annoying thing is the distribution centre at Thorne is about 5 miles from my house so it's got to go from there to Warrington for me to collect it. :headbang:

I am gutted...I was due delivery week 15, next week, thought I would have it for the Easter weekend...I have been told today it is likely to be week 17 they are still not sure. I am going away for a couple of weeks around then so it looks like being the end of April for me. :(

To add insult to injury, the day they have suggested for the pickup is the day I am booked in for laser eye surgery, so I won't be driving for a week or so :headbang:

My mate called around tonight with his E89 which he picked up today, he was due delivery with me as we ordered together, his has been in the dealership for 2 weeks...how does that work :?

Where is Thorne?

JDM, why Warrington do you not have a dealer closer to where you are? I thought you where based somewhere around here...

Halliwell Jones in Warrington were the dealer who gave me the best deal. My local dealers are rubbish and didnt come anywhere near where they did.

GOT IT!!!!! :D

Hand over took about an hour going through various things. Managed to get the Gap insurance (3yrs RTI) down from £499 to £249 by quoting an online price I'd got. Tyre insurance is going to be £299 if I go for it, does that sound right?

So, heres a picture I took the other day whilst it was awaiting pre-delivery:

As you know, I asked them not to remove the delivery wax, cos I've got my detailer coming tomorrow to fully detail and protect the exterior. He was going to do it at the dealer before collection, but the dealership was too busy to accommodate him, so he's coming tomorrow instead. Therefore, you're not getting a full picture until it's done...this'll have to do for now:

It had 7 miles on the clock when I got it and a full tank of fuel.

 Very nice.

We declined the tire insurance. Haven't had a single puncture in the 3 1/2 years we've lived in North Wales.

If we were still in Atlanta, I would have gone for it. The roads there are not friendly to 45 series tires.

Gap insurance depends. For example LV= will pay replacement cost for the first year on new car. But LV= wouldn't insure our Z4.

too bad about the color though :poke:

Thanks.

The tyre insurance is a gamble....I haven't had a puncture or tyre damage for years and years, so on the face of it, probability of having one is low. But when you factor in the "sods law" element it does make sense cos I'll probably get some now! Cheapest I've found online is £259 (admittedly, haven't looked too hard) and BMW want £299, so I'm tempted to go with them.

A bit worrying what you say about LV.....I'm with them! Haven't told them of change of car yet cos I've got the BMW 7 day one at the moment, so no rush. I did do an online quote with LV and it quoted ok. A guy up the road has the original Z4 with soft top and LV wouldn't insure his car without a tracker. If the car gets written off in the first year and the insurance replace it, then the GAP can be transferred onto the replacement car.

Yeah, shame about the colour.....haha!!!! I love the blue of your car, but gone off dark cars after I had a black one.

I've only had my full UK license for 2 years and 11 months. I think that is why LV won't insure us for the Z4.

Odd thing is LV gave me the lowest quote on the van. Its up for renewal and that's why I just re-read what the policy covers.

More annoying is that the van insurance is more than the Z4. I paid £3k for the van 3 years ago.

I know what you mean about dark colors. I just spent 4 hours cleaning the car. It's a sickness.

Congrats Kevin, looks 8)

But hang on......your detailer? whats wrong in doing it yourself? best way of bonding with your new motor.

Only thing I've gone for is the interior protect which the dealer did a discount on which basically seals and protects the leather and covers against marks and scuffs which will be done free of charge if the worst should happen. I will be detailing the exterior myself, I wouldn't trust anyone else :)

Good question. Simple answer...I'm too lazy!!!!!

I've clayed and waxed both 1'ers in the past - the last time I did the works to the silver 1'er it took me ages on the claying stage (apparently it shouldn't...but it did!). The results were amazing, but I'm just to lazy to psych myself up for it...meaning it goes without doing for toooooo long!

I to was weary about letting someone else do it, which is why I use a detailer, not a valeter. I actually asked a local car valeter if he used clay and his eyes glazed over, he had no idea! So following a recommendation from a guy on babybmw.net I contacted Zaff at Project Karma and he came down early december and did a full protection detail on our white 1'er.

This being a new car, I wanted to avoid the dealer touching the paintwork, so decided early on to get Zaff to do it, including removing the delivery wax. The dealer had to wash it lightly cos it was filthy after transportation, but they didn't do too much and hopefully no swirls (didn't see any when I checked it earlier).

So I know that it will be done tomorrow properly and have a good coat of wax on it. He's also re-doing the 1'er with a top up detail (wash and wax). Plan to get both topped up every 6 or 7 months, then I can manage to wash in-between.

So the simple answer is laziness!!!

 thats cool, out of interest whats it costing? sometimes I've thought of having the works done on the car but as I clean mine every weekend it never really gets into a state, last time I looked at a detailer it was around £400 :o

Curious why a lot of new guys, apart from JDM are not going for the supremely gorgeous 326 M Sport wheels??

Theyre gorgeous alloys but for me coming from a 118d M Sport with 18" runflats I was worried about the ride quality, I test drove a 2.3 with 19s and the ride was OK but they did kick up a bit of noise on rough tarmac. The 18s look fine to me :)
