No its 2 crew not 3 pilots so one cabin crew with the remaining pilot Tim.

Sorry yes thats it, but with the cabin being like fort knox who do we know whos really flying?
Don't worry, 99% of the time it'll still be the autopilot

Really tragic for the families. And many of them will be FLYING out to see the site :!:

I think it's the random nature of this event that is most discomforting

I hope the murderous b******d rots in hell for ever. I don't give an sh1t about any mental condition he may or may not have had. If it's sympathy that's required, you'll find it in the dictionary between sh1t and syphilis.

Yep. Totally with you on this.

Seems fault lies in whatever system is in place to monitor pilots mental health. As reports suggest the guy suffered from depression and most probably mental health problems he shouldn't have been at the controls in the first place. Mental health can be a horrible thing.

Tim.

Looks like the auto pilot was set to 100 feet.
Mental health issues can affect one in four people at some time in our lives.
God rest those souls.

Autopilot crashed this aircraft.

Its us pilots who command the autopilot
Which takes you less than 1% of the flight, then you kick back, drink coffee and shmooze the stews...

We don't know but then we don't know who is driving the bus or the train either!

How many phsycological or medical checks do those fellas have ?

He was obviously able to pass by the checks and appear completely 'normal' and together on the outside. This is often the way with mental health issues. People on the outside have no idea that you're battling some inner demons or struggling every day.

He would have had someone monitor him when he was training and starting out as a pilot. They didn't notice anything untoward so the mask never slipped in all that time.

This is a hugely tragic event and a real shame that it came to this but I guess there's only so much profiling and checking that can be done to reveal the person.

This was clearly more than depression. He was very clearly, very severely mentally ill. I don't believe this was a spur of the moment decision either, I think he went to work that day waiting for the right time. I feel for all the families involved and really feel very sorry for his parents, they will never be able to return to their old lives.

I guess that within twenty or so years planes may well be pilotless, which takes the nutters out of the equasion. the technology is there now I think, and the pilots there for emergencies and check,s but often fly , take off and land on auto pilot . a lot of countries are investing in driverless road vehicle research too, we have seen massive technological advances in our lifetimes, imagine what the next century will bring, ! Thats if some fanatic doesnt F*ck it up for everyone by pressing the button , which imo is the most probable scenario, over resources or religeon most likely. people born in the second half of the 20th century probably had the best of planet earth . sad but possibly true. agree that andreas whats his face deserves to rot in hell then be recycled and chucked back in for the pain he inflicted on so many innocent people.

Removing humans from the loop isn't really the answer as it doesn't exactly 'take the nutters out of the equation', it just makes them further removed - software has to be written to control those planes, there will be people trying to compromise that software for kicks, financial gain or something a little more sinister.

We've already seen large-scale cyber-attacks on various parts of western infrastructure and, while terrorists had to hijack planes and fly suicide missions for 9/11, imagine what it would be like if a terrorist organisation, or hostile country, was able to compromise the software controlling automated aircraft - you could have every airborne plane in the western hemisphere dropping out of the sky at the same time.
