Sure that would work....

Can I get a pass? I have a fancy camera but my special talent means it will probably look as if taken on my phone!

Was actually going to give it a go this month.

We could have a month again in the future where we don't allow photoshopping if there is enough popular support for that...

what month was the last one? I'd like to have a look at the results...sad thing is there are very few DSLRs that produce top class results without at least some tweaking...

Well I have to say there are some excellent pics there, so no photoshop would be a good idea on the odd occasion....and then I saw Tommo's pic.

Now I've an even better idea!!!!!

I'm thinking that perhaps for the month of Jan 2010 we will do a no photoshopping contest....

why the SLR distinction? there are plenty of non-SLRs that will do almost as much?...I'm assuming you are talking DSLR - the pro thing I would agre with though....

Just no photoshopping. A better camera does not always mean a better picture and someone that is a semi pro or pro will likely get the better picture no matter what camera they are using. By restricting photoshopping this just levels the playing field for those that don't have that skill set. Your skill taking pictures will improve by participating in the photo contest and seeing what others do and learning from their skill. The bar is pretty high here but that competition will be to your benefit even if you don't finish in the top 3 you'll become a better photographer... :camera:

yes, dslr ? whatever that is.

simples; and apologies if I'm teaching my granny to suck eggs here - SLR stand for Single Lens Reflex and is normally taken to refer to a camera that uses 35mm (or other) film - the reflex bit just means that the viewfinder is prismatically linked so that it 'sees' through the lens itself, rather than having a separate viewing lens. The 'D' simply means digital, and as WLH says below, its not about the camera technology - I could spend £5700 on this http://www.simplyelectronics.net/mainproduct.php?pid=7739 which is not an SLR, and still meet the rules while blowing everything else out of the water as regards picture quality.

I'd say the main thing in this kind of amateur comp is just getting something that has half reasonable lens quality above all else. And at the resolution being used to display pictures on the site, that ain't difficult. :) :) :)

Or you could spend over £28,000 on this:
H4D_500.jpg

Hasselblad H4D-60 Body Only
LENS NOT INCLUDED. 1-Shot version: 1 shot, with 60 mega-pixel sensor Digital Back with 3" TFT colour display, Li-ion Battery and Charger, CF card storage (supplied with 4Gb card) Phocus software for Mac and PC and Adobe DNG support.
£ 28695.00

60 friggin mega-bleedin-pixies!!! and lens not included.....Gordon Bennett!

But sadly its a DSLR so I'll have to pass this time.... :D
