The new Z4 is here...

I was back and forth on this car from the leaked pictures, but now we have seen the real thing I have decided I really really like it. Wish the M was out sooner! Looks good in dark colours, and here are some cool Photoshops form another forum showing how it could look...

Well I thought I'd have to wait until I saw it in the flesh, but to see the video clip, official photos and the Photoshop done in Sterling Grey convince me - it's beautiful, simply beautiful. They could have ruined it totally.

OK so I'd prefer a ragtop than hardtop, bootspace may be compromised somewhat and the extra join in the wing is a mess, but they kept the two main crease lines, essence of the '4' and simply evolved the design. The prices are less of a hike than I expected, but real prices will be a lot more by the time you spec in what's needed.

I'd have one if it were a straight trade for mine with like for like spec. ....

I'm going to have to reserve judgement too.

I've always thought that the current Z4 is not very photogenic. Knowing that, I'm always amazed at how good people make it look in the monthly photo competition. Even the instant-classic coupe looks far better in the flesh than in an average pic, IMHO.

I agree with others that selling the new ones may be a challenge in these economic times. I think that BMW did a lousy job from day one in their pricing of our Z4. Whatever they do, let's just hope that they don't do something silly to significantly impact the rate of depreciation on our Z4s. :|

130 mph top speed, and 150 for the twin turbo, wtf mates? Really wish they had a non-compromise version with the soft top, that things really tipping the scales now. I do like the looks of the body in the newer pics and vids and inside it looks really nice! So glad for the tt, and the M version with the V8 should be a hooligan!

Where did you get those speeds? The UK site is showing 151mph to 155mph depending upon model.

its a shame to have lost so may of the lines- the lne that floows from the front to the raer on our cars shows the quality of the buld as t goes through the door handle and back onto rear! the new one tails off- cheaper? as for the side vent- way to z3! I know the z in our cars is supposed to be the deigners jaw line and not a z but it iis so dstingtive its a shae ts gone!
Totally agree!! I posted the same on a Dutch board but I'm the only one who said that. Amazing that nobody notices.

I like the overall looks, it's not bad at all, but the current Z4 has more details which I like. More lines that are really great, but you have to see them. The current Z4 could be exactly the same as the drawings from the designers at BMW. This new Z4 is designed so everybody likes it and the designers went home at 5 o clock. I'm a bit disappointed.

I think I've figured it out - I do like it, but as a Merc SL competitor. Good thing or bad? Not sure, but I think I'd only look at the M - it just seems to me its not going to be very raw - could be way too civilised / grown up... maybe when I'm 50...

According to the specs, both US versions (30i and 35i) are, for some strange reason, limited to 130 unless you get the Sport pack in which case it is 150 in both cases.

I agree that the details here have suffered. The original Z4 was challenging and at first I didn't like it, but now I appreciate it for the details this new one looks, dare I say it, cheap.
The Bangle designs rely heavily on a solid vision and I think that is why the original was marmite, but when you like them they are impossible not to admire and appreciate.

Infact, for me, the Z4 has only just really caught my eye and it looks and feels fresher than ever! The new one is certainly contemporary BMW, but I feel it'll age much more quickly than a 'pure' Bangle ;)

That's to protect against recently separated angry gay men taking her all the way :driving:

Decision made

I'll be keeping mine  - new one looks too much like a shrunk down 6 series - sorry to all those that like the looks - not for me I'm afraid.

Andy, that makes a lot of sense. All our cars have devalued so much that keeping them and using them is best for the time being. I am very happy with the SLK for the forseeable, I might be tempted by a 35i with DCT towards the start of 2010 depending on how used prices are holding up and availability of lightly used bargains.

I will continue to reserve judgment until I actually see one.
That said I prefer my roadster to be a rag top and not a folding metal top...
The increase in size and weight...
What appears to be a major loss of usable trunk/boot space is a major issue for me...
I suspect I will be driving my 06 3.0si for sometime.... :driving:

Not only loss of usable trunk space, but the roof looks lower to the seats--loss of head room for sure!

It will sell, it looks great, but my coupe was a conscious choice--I wouldn't ride around with the top down all that much, so the new one is not an advantage for me. I already have a 3.0Si, so again, no advantage.
