The new Z4 is here...

I like it from all angles. The butt reminds me of the 6 series. It looks as good either top down or top up. Someone remarked that it's taking a turn toward the luxury cruiser and its price will be hiked accordingly. If that's the case then an E93 or E93 M3 may be a more reasonable option in terms of practicality. :?

Very nice - although its ashame its grown and weighs more (1480Kg) - because of the roof and because its generally fatter - it needs the 335 engine to match the old 3.0si performance. It's much more 'grown up' - the interior especially.

Basically - I'm not sure I would buy it. The previous targeted the Boxter, this targets (and not just because of the roof) the SLK...

Recent lurker here but since I'm not buying a current Z4 didnt have anyting to add of value until now :)
Just stumbled across these official images of the new Z4 and didnt see them posted yet.

http://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=193159

Anyone have any idea if the M3 engine will go in this car? THat will be my ultimate car, the new body with a V8 :driving:
Also I'm in the US, does anyone know how much the new one will sell for here? TIA
There are some fab hi-res pics on that thread

Seeing as there have been little surprises so far in terms of engines etc and the car is staying close to the E90/91/92 3 series, then I would expect the 4.0 V8 to make it in at some point, but I would be surprised if it happened before 2011.

No firm news on prices yet, they are expected to rise due to the new tech, hardtop, etc but given the current world economic climate that might not be such a great idea.

Thanks! Also saw these new Z4 videos of driving footage hope its not a repost:

Thanks for the reply I dunno if I could even afford the V8 Z4 and the 335i engine is very tunable so that's my likely option.

The Autotrader link suggests £45k for an sDrive35i with DCT transmission...and these are apparently the German prices -

German prices (incl 19% VAT):

BMW Z4 sDrive 23i (204 HP) = €35,900 (E85 Z4 2.5si 218HP = €35,900) (E85 Z4 2.5i 177HP = €32,900) (E85 Z4 2.0i 150HP = €29,900)
BMW Z4 sDrive 30i (258 HP) = €42,900 (E85 Z4 3.0si 265HP = €42,250)
BMW Z4 sDrive 35i (306 HP) = €47,450

MB SLK:
350 (305HP) = €46,975
280 (231HP) = €41,860
200K (184HP) = €36,500

Ummm, not sure really.

Will hold total judgement till I see one, but I don't like all the lines they don't seem flow and allmost look too fussy.

Looks like Z3 meets Z4.

The dash looks much better, just hope they have sorted all the rattle issues for this one!!!

UK prices

E89UKprices.jpg

The last OTR prices for the current models were -

3.0Si SE £32,800
3.0Si Sport £34,200

Given BMW UK's current trend of self-registering cars that uisn't going to get any less while the current economic climate remains can only be good news, it'll mean that towards the end of 2009 there will be a steady supply of bargain-priced Z4s coming into the 2nd hand market, just like before. I'm surprised at the prices, because the exchange rate against the euro is awful and with the new kit in the car I did expect a fairly big leap in prices.

So they did ruin the boot space totally, I'm disappointed, notice the lack of promo pictures showing boot space with the roof down :(

I think the rear line flowing from the folding hard top to the boot looks disjointed and crap, will save judgement till i see one in person. Looks more luxurious and upmarket but I expect it has a few thousand pounds of additional interior upgrades such as custom dash and extended leather.

The 3.0 twin turbo should be able to output more than 300 hp to haul its overweight ass along, I had that reliably from a 2.0 4 cylinder single turbo and cars such as the supra had that kind of output in the mid 90's.

its a shame to have lost so may of the lines- the lne that floows from the front to the raer on our cars shows the quality of the buld as t goes through the door handle and back onto rear! the new one tails off- cheaper? as for the side vent- way to z3! I know the z in our cars is supposed to be the deigners jaw line and not a z but it iis so dstingtive its a shae ts gone!

Unfortunately I think you're right about that, it looks even less space than the SLK, a lot of the side space becomes unusable :(

Guess it means I'll just have to upgrade to a Z4M :) Porsche have the new Z4 licked totaly when it comes to practicality.

I suppose it's just the downside of the hard top, I still prefer it but the reduced practicality is a bit of a problem. The other thing I hate is that you can't have the window down if it's raining because the angle of the roof means that water just gushes in, and Z4 seems like it will be particularly bad for this.

6" longer and more filled out, and certainly taller. I bet it's a bit more lardy too with the size and roof being folding metal.

No doubt a lovely car, but not the kind of lighter weight small Roadster the original Z4 is.

The bonnet detailing is quite nasty with the two panel edges intersecting over the front arch... I can see that costing a bit to replace if the wings get hit you take out a bonnet too! I'm not sure if thats meant to be an alluring design feature, or just cheap panelling layout :?

What are our guesses, 225kg more than a 3.0Si for that model?

From the side, the front fender definitely looks too busy IMHO:
- Crease
- Two cut offs from the hood
- Marker
- And again way too many badges.

They've done it again!

Just when you think BMW couldn't the designers have done it again. I'm amazed at every new BMW that comes out over the past few years.

Killed another car.

The ride height looks as if it'll soon be competition for the smaller off roaders!

1 Series just the ugliest car in the world
1 Series Coupe can't buy them for love nor money!
3 Series now as huge as the old 5 Series and just plain ugly
5 Series just ugly
X5 I've never seen the point
X6 looks like it was designed by a child
6 Series is passable
7 Series, again I don't see the point.

Z4 - The only truly stunning looking roadster available from BMW and they've done this to it.

The designers should all be shaking in their shoes with the worldwide financial meltdown due to the yank banks. Can you imagine going for another job and saying, "I designed the 1 series"!

They can keep it.

With the sales from this car it's going to make the current Z4 from 2003 until end of production even more desirable to buy second hand.

The New BMW Z4
An Expression of Joy?

Probably for Mercedes, Audi, Porsche etc etc!

Here's the link for the UK site.

1385kg to 1470kg for the 3.0

sDrive30i manual 1470kg
sDrive30i auto 1500kg
sDrive35i manual 1565kg
sDrive35i DCT 1585kg

There might be a bit of difference between US methods of measurement so I'm not 100% certain on these. The EU weight of the "old" 3.0Si was 1415kg so comparably the sDrive35i DCT will be over 1600kg with tank of fuel etc.

The SLK350 is 1505 and the SLK55 is 1575kg so I suppose it is broadly comparable with its peers.
