Sadly, I will have to change my driving ways. There's an increased police presence (yes, we live in a police state) in my county. I was stopped for speeding. I've had my car for 13 months and never stopped before, but apparently, my county needs more $ revenue $ coming in...
I stopped at a long line (must have been a line of cars stretching a half mile and changed to the left lane, which was virtually empty). So when I changed lanes, I accelerated. I was stopped for allegedly doing 51mph in a 30mph (3 lane) road. I never checked my speedometer, so I will never know how fast I was going, but I was driving up to a red light, which was more than 1000 feet away. I stepped on the gas because I was going too slow... next thing I know, a cop with blaring sirens appeared out of nowhere. Whenever I step on the gas in the Z, the car gives a strong jolt forward and the engine purrs loudly.
"Officer, what did I do wrong?"
"You were going 51mph on a 30mph zone."
"Well, I never checked so I don't know. But I wasn't endangering anyone."
"We're doing speed detail here."
"Officer, I was driving. I wasn't breaking any laws"
He gave my car a once-look-over and said:
"You were probably jacked up..." [implying I was speeding because I have this car] "...just plead 'Not Guilty' and we'll keep from knocking points off."
The truth was, I wasn't jacked up. I was on my way to the golf range to hit a few.
"So Officer, you're telling me to plead 'Not Guilty', but you're giving me a ticket anyway??? Why?"
He walked back to his car. I looked over my shoulder and saw three other cars being pulled over by three separate cop cruisers.
I know what some of you will say...
"You got caught, pay the consequences."
"That's what you get for speeding."
"Stop breaking the law."
I took a drive early this morning to listen to the car. Usually, I played music and never paid much attention. But each time you press on the accelerator, the car gives off a loud purr when you go from 0 - 20mph - so it gives the appearance (or the sound) that you're going fast or you're really hitting the gas. I went onto the same road I was stopped at and went 30mph... not much difference in the way I was driving when I was stopped. Then I went 50mph about 10 seconds later. No drastic difference other than the number on your speedometer.
I know I'm splitting hairs... but that's exactly what the cop did.
Moral of the story? Drive like a blind grandmother -
Open up a vein and let every drop of your joy for driving spill out. :x
