the new cayman/boxster GT4

Not surprised at all.. one of the best looking cars out there right now...

On the other hand, the Zed is looking pretty dated now, even mine with aeros and a few other mods... just doesn't make me smile in the looks department anymore. 981 Boxster is a real head turner, whether into cars or not. I'm looking out onto a white Cayman S from my office just now, normally hate white cars, but it looks amazing.

Do you know if the GTS you're getting at the weekend is PDK or Manual? I love the idea of staying manual, but one thing I hate is tall gears cars, especially in a sports cars. Where as the PDK keeps the mph per gear about the same as the Zed.

For me, Boxster GTS yellow or red with PDK, Leather Interior (not alcantara), Bucket Seats and PTV, job done! :driving: :driving:

Be interesting to hear your thoughts if it has Bose too.

the GTS is a PDK, the car i had on loan also had top spec hifi bose and it pretty much overpowers the z4 setup in all departments, the game in general has moved on..... the z4 is in an analogue era where the Boxster has firmly trotted into the distance.
like i sed i think the gt4 will be top notch super stuff but hell i have a feeling the GTS would be all we need guys.... that PDK box makes every last use of the power available and made even the 2.9 seem very quick, just the whole experience was an eye opener, BUT..... look how much you having to pay to move on and your still losing out in some department. Where i have to disagree is the looks the z4 looks absolutely bang fresh, incredible design and STILL to this day looks better than the boxster/cayman , the z4 is a design masterpiece, with some choice little mods they look nuts. Had i had my particualr z4 with me that day with the cars parked together i think it would have drew the more attention, however i could be wrong.

Sutton OPC have a red GTS in the showroom literally spec'd o the hilt, i encourage you not to look at it, it is so beautiful its painful, i really enjoyed pouring all over that car!
 
Beedub, make sure you take lots of pics!

Also, can you let me know the in gear tops speeds for 1st 2nd and 3rd (on a private road of course 8) ) ... see how the PDK compares to the Z4M. The manual GTS\S is just too tall geared to enjoy banging through the gears; 115mph in 3rd is utter madness.
 
I still think the GTS is a mighty fine car and suits me better as it has PDK

I am worried about residuals and image when the 4 cylinder cars hit this year
 
And I also think they would have sold more Z4M's with auto boxes and didn't lack behind Audi in producing dual clutch gearboxes

i see the new Spyder rumours are circulating really quickly now......... I'm aching for one of these cars, for ME it could be even more special than the GT4... erm.... I've just spend half my P car fund on a hot hatch :tumbleweed: :tumbleweed: :tumbleweed: :tumbleweed: :tumbleweed: :tumbleweed: I LOVE the z4 but i think these cars are the natural progression for us all really. GTS comes on wednesday and i literally think its probably going to blow my mind!

Starting for $85,595, the GT4 is about $10,000 more than the Cayman GTS, but it undercuts its closest in-house rival, the 911 GTS, by around $30,000. Not a bad deal, but you’d better act fast. Fewer than 1,000 GT4s are coming to the United States. Those who miss out might want to put their name down for the 2016 Boxster Spyder, which gets a 375-hp engine with a manual transmission but none of the chassis parts that make the GT4 so special.

my heart has ached for a car in so long....... i can see one of these in my garage tbh.... lets see how the prices go after 6 months of them being given to customers, hopefully they drop alittle and don't shoot up instantly.

Stunning Video- loved the drone shots . I think this car is very clever - uses the 3.8 but in a track focused car so the 991 C2S market isn't touched to much .

If I read things correctly the 3.8 engine has a limited lifetime left as all 991 gen 2s will be turbo so the GT4 will represent some of the last of their breed. I don't think these things will see any meaningful depreciation for a couple of years.

Yeap!! I'd have the manual GTS if it wasn't for the tall gearing. What makes it worse is 6th gear is really short, so even if someone develops a shorter ratio diff, it will be annoying when cruising. Whereas the PDK has 6 shorter ratios then a tall 7th.

Take a note of the in-speed gears of PDK tomorrow pls :) Be interesting to compare.
 
Damn....

after driving all these new cars over the past 4 weeks, i finally jumped back into the z4 today after a long time of hibernation and woozer, for the first time since my ownership I've thought.. " your feeling your age now".... lots of little creaks and groans, it still feels as tight as a drum but wow, it really does now feel its age, but... thats because it is and boy does it wear those years well... i get the cayman GTS tomorrow and i can't help in thinking its going to make the z4m just feel even older.
I will always LOVE the z4m model its such a nice package and is imo now a modern classic, a formula we probably won't see again, the game hasn't just moved on, the game has now changed!!

but i can smell a p-car in my future now. Its inevitable.
