the new cayman/boxster GT4

Just looked at the Nordschleife lap time for a a Boxter S 7:58:00 ... That is fast Alpina Roadster S - the Cayman S 7:55:00 , I can't remember the Z4M time but I think that is more than a marginal improvement in performance with the exception perhaps of yours Beedub.

Note MR Rohl was at the wheel of the Cayman S which I think also played a part.

Life is too short to worry about money. If you have it and you want a Porsche, just go out and buy it.I do.You can't drive it when your six foot under.Sorry but it really annoys me when people say they have the cash but it was hard earned. Most of us have earned our money the hard way ,but that doesn't mean we don't spend it .

Why does it annoy you? My point was that Porsche take the mick with the paint price.

Carmine Red is a special colour,I think it's a two layer paint,so it costs more..It's the colour I like in the Cayenne,so I am willing to pay the extra to get the car in that colour. At the moment I have Midnight Blue in the cayenne, but will have Carmine when I change.

Hi Beedub ...

sorry for the cold post last night .. also I was not on any sauce lets get that straight ! I had a late night at the amplifier workshop getting my valve amplifiers ready for CE certification .. very stressful and costly

What I was trying to say was that I have read most of you posts and this seems a model that you would really like, so just go for it .. you have a great Z4M for what I have seen that I am sure will command a high price to the right person. We looked at a new boxter (the others where outside of our price range) but as soon as we put some extras on the price rocketed .. plus I did not realise that you only got a 2 year warranty and the 3rd year was £600, So that's why we ended up with a fully loaded 35is that was heavily discounted. I still look at them now and play with the configurations but our dealer is miles away ... good luck with what ever you do, but either way you have a great car now and unique .. which seems to be going up in value ... anyway signing off more amplifiers to build

regards

JB

apology accepted and much more constructive post... good points for sure.... however a GTS is never the model i wanted, but i can and do appreciate it when i see a nice one hence the pics. The GT4 in the spec i want was definitely out of reach, and what loose a very special car ( z4m) for a car id have had to got in lesser spec, just to make the move, which when i already have a car that is unique really seems silly.... theirs nothing wrong with wanting and if the gt4 comes down and the spec is right ill be in one no doubt. its a sure fire classic.

the spyder seems like more and a GTs + than a watered down gt4 which is what id hoped, anyway i would never have got either car anyway.

Having driven my mates 981 GTS I wasn't left amazed by it. It was okay, but nothing special. Driving it wasn't really an event. His also just looked a bit meh! In silver, pretty but not a head Turner.

I spoke to him this week regarding his GT4. He now has a flexible delivery date in the not too distant future. However, he told me he has since driven one and didn't instantly fall for it. He is a total pdk convert so admitted that had something to do with it but his initial impressions were that it wasn't much more focused than the GTS. He is also worried it feels a step down from his current 991 GTS. None the less he's none too worried if he doesn't bond with it as it'll easily sell on for a profit.

the z4m was supplied with less than ideal tyres, even that changed and re-run would result in a widely different time, id wager my underdog of a z4m would smack some serious 991 ass let alone the 981 range.... and those mod costs are still much cheaper than any trade .

i just love and appreciate the brand massively.

wow...... interesting comments on the gearing, overall this car is pretty much awesome.

Pistonheads are currently doing a comparison between Exige Cup and GT4. They've just posted a picture of them both on their Facebook page parked up on some remote hillside location. The accompanying status is "this is proving to be an interesting comparison"

40mph per 1st two gears, so keep the gearing ratios going up and wham 240... But seriously, it should hit 170 really easily id imagine

Would love to have seen these two in action.

The pictures were taken just up the road from me near scammonden reservoir

The Boxster Spyder looks great with the top down and bloody awfull with it up.

If you must go for a porsche then the Targa is the only one worth having. The retro looks are stunning and it drives really well.

I need my head checked for rocks.. wentinto porsche today to get a few prices on a 997 wheel amongst other things.. walked out with an appointment to go back next week and talk to the guy who is dealing with the gt4s as the caymans are still orderable here. My head is screaming no, the heart is doing the man maths! Came away with a pretty brocure with sport yellow one splattered on the front..

Wish the 911 was doable, it almost makes the cayman look sedate! Gorgeous. Its like porn, you don't need to understand the words

There's a full road test, with all the usual performance figures, in Autocar this week. Hurry though because the next issue is out tomorrow.

Gearing totally slammed here.....
Great watch, well worth 30 mins of your time.

Also interestingly I've seen a few early cars up for over 100k . They aren't moving at this price.
