The March 2011 Photo Competition - COMMENTS

All great subs this month. Had a thought about themes etc and maybe one month we could do a 'camera phone only' comp. Might shake it up a bit.

Then that could cause a problem mcbee
Maybe then, something themed around particular angles or parts?

...think I may be pissing in the wind on this one

How about "funniest" or "most peculiar" ? Then the quality of the shot would not be the deciding factor....and the PHONES WITH CAMERAS COULD BE COMPETITIVE. Damned &%$$& Caps Lock key....

My concern is how to verify that the picture was actually taken with a camera phone? Also, some of the new camera phones actually take really good pictures under the right conditions.

I like the idea of a theme. If I recall we did one called "reflections" last year.

The theme could be based on a word (broken, closeup, rain, disused, chaos etc.). A poll of such words could be setup in the week preceeding the comp opening with the popular vote being the theme.

Granted, that probably still wouldnt create an even playing field but it would be interesting how indivduals would approach each theme.

Mafoo, Interesting idea...

I will set up a thread and poll to first come up with say 10 words and then a poll. I don't want to rush into this with just over a week to go before the next competition opens so will try to get something going for the May competition.

I am really interested in seeing a month where the shots are based solely on the luck of being in the right place at the right time, with the right lens, exposure and a keen eye etc, so hey WLH, would be nice to have a chance at a comp that isn't OPEN (i.e. no photo shopping) some time, what's the possibility of this?

iwatchlive, I will consider doing that again. My concern with that is the difficulty associated with policing that. We really must just accept an individuals word that it was no photo shopping and then the board at large can take that into account when voting.

I can't see that working anymore. My camera (D300) has a pretty impressive editing package built right into the body itself. Most point & shoots let you set all sorts of values such as contrast, saturation, etc. Most I think that can be said is no extreme photoshopping... but some cameras even do HDR as standard and that's about as extreme as it gets with manipulating the same photo.

Technically, it is a Z4 and it more than likely is his car.... So, I would have to say " Legal".

Can I put my Z8 in. ...???? :poke:
