The M that time forgot :'(

There must be another explanation.
I'm sure, maybe an insurance claim, (stolen recovered or similar), and it was taken to the nearest dealer for an inspection/valuation?

[OP] Why did you not ask the dealer at the time, or subsequently?

s**t car, s**t dealer. They deserve each other.

In my 3 years of dealing with Dick Lovett in Bristol, I have had nothing but excellent service from them

Lucky you. I only had to deal with them once, whlst buying a car and they:

Lied whilst selling the car
Denied lying, after I caught them out
Either forged the AUC check document, or failed to spot non OEM wheels + tyres
Refused to do anything reasonable to resolve it

I wouldn't buy a can of Coke from them, or let them service a pair of scissors.

I didn't ask them about it 5 months ago as I was still pondering the idea of buying an M Coup, nothing serious and I wasn't too fussed on silver after owning a grey Z anyway.

Then yesterday was because of time really, didn't have a lot of it. Well not enough to be bored to death by a car salesman anyway. Plus this 'VIP' event they were having with bodyguards on the door (albeit giving out glasses of drink) kinda put me off too.

I'm sure I'll get a chance later in the week or next to ask them, no doubt it'll still be there rotting away too.

I might try and investigate. A colleague is married to the master technician at Lovett Bristol.

As to service, +1 to SARS' comment. I've had nothing but good experiences with Lovett Mini and BMW although that's the Swindon showrooms. Maybe it's like banks, service varies between branches

looking at that rear window again, it doesn't look like rust. just manky water.
Looking at the first picture a lot of brownish gunk on the white lines on road and leaves etc so may well just be gunge
