how much does warranty for an m5 cost? assuming the vast majority of ones out there for sub 23k pounds have done over 50k miles...we talking about 2k a year??
It is £168 a month if the car is over 60,000 miles. If below 60,000 miles, it is a a very reasonable £108 a month for the full fat, BMW recovery, £0 excess Comprehensive level of cover.
To all the nay-sayers on here - I sold my Z4MC 9 months ago after covering almost 50k miles in just under 5 years as it was not being driven enough. It was replaced by an BMW AUC M5 Touring. I also had a chance to be re-united with my old car at a Bedford track day two weeks ago. I had mixed feelings - would I feel a real pang of grief - the sort of which you experience when you see an ex holding hands with someone else... Much to my relief, I did not. Granted, I still enjoyed the experience a lot, but my God, the M5 is just soooooooo much more on every level, except looks... If you can find a E60 (E61s are still mid to high 20s) with less than 60k miles and similarly priced to a Z4M it is soo much car for the money, it is hard to ignore...
Tales of fragility are frankly rubbish - the V10 is just as unburstable as the S54. Both could suffer from Vanos issues, but that's about it. The V10 is so electronically protected, it is almost impossible to destroy it. Lack of servicing will do though. The only really weak point in the car is the clutch - not the actual unit, which is very nicely designed twin disc set-up, but the stupid factory fitted release bearing, where the grease dries over time and makes it stick on the intermediate shaft, thus toasting the friction plates, intermediate plate and flywheel in the process... BMW Warranty coveres the issue - funnily enough, new release bearings come with proper grease, which sorts the problem. The gearbox itself is indestructable, because yet again it has a multitude of sensors to protect it. Just think of this drivetrain in a 4-door saloon :driving: ...
