I'm looking at buying one myself, a Garmin that is, probably the nuvi 260W but I was curious as to whether the internal speaker was sufficiently loud with roof up or down? How is it for re-calculating a new route? I've done some research on the Mio, Navman etc, and while they may be good, I kinda feel the Garmin has it for some reason. Apparently the Garmin's don't have a day/night feature where you can tone down the illumination - is it a problem for you?
Thanks mate,

But lets think about what you could do!
Well your lanes are open (at least in front of you) so you could give a quick boost of power and swerve around but rpm is a bit low for super quick acceleration. You couldn't come to complete stop in time, so IMO swerving is the best option.
I was talking with a few people at work one day, and I don't know if i'm a rarity or was just trained on driving right....but most of the people in our little group didn't routinely think about what to do if the vehicle in front or some other obstacle happened in front of them while cruising on the highway while they were driving. I'm all the time keeping a scan and keeping an idea of who is on my sides in case I have to do some emergency procedures.
