I'll tell you story that's happening to me right now.john-e89 said:Me personally I’m not calling you guys anything, it’s your choice as I’ve always said, I don’t agree but that’s not the point, but you’re going against every single GP in this country....you trust them with pretty much everything else yes..? They don’t always get it right, god knows I know that from my experience, just one at a very good surgery generally, do you question every and research every drug you’re given...?
Your choice guys, I’m just curious is all.
Firstly a bit of background. I have been giving blood for over 30 years. I'm a good bleeder, and every time I go to give blood, they remark what good iron levels I have.
Recently I was advised to have an ECG and blood test as a matter of routine, seeing how I'm in my 50's. I went and had the ECG and blood test. In the next couple of days I developed the shingles (unrelated). I went to the doctor about this and whilst there I mentioned that I had just given blood, and would this be affected, or even did it show up on the tests? In fact, the blood tests had returned and the triage nurse that was seeing me for the shingles looked over the results, and told me everything was OK.
Fast forward two weeks later.
I get the follow-up call from the doctor to discuss the results and he tells me I'm very anemic. My B12 levels are very low and I need to come in for a course of booster shots.
I dutifully go in and receive the shots. 3 times a week for a month. I have never felt worse. My heart is jumping out of my chest and generally I feel lousy. I'm supposed to now routinely go back and get 3 month boosters.
I call the surgery and tell them that I should have another test to see if indeed I actually need a booster or whether the shots I was given have done the trick. Twice I have called, and twice I have been denied a test.
If you put oil in your car, you check the dipstick don't you?
But who am I actually dealing with? When I call, I get a lot of "hmmmm"s and "that does sound right" but also a hell of a lot of, "the doctor doesn't think you need a test" without even talking to me.
I won't go back.
If I walk in and say my heart is playing up, what do you think the response will be? "We've fkd up", or "you need more pills"?
