One man band in a man cave with ramps, blasting cabinets, tools....sold all my old building equipment and never been happier working. I’ll take this all day everyday even with all the worries and risk that a new business brings. No intention of setting anyone on again, just me and my cave with no one breathing down my neck...! :D

Which machine have you selected to have your first accident with? :poke:

Hopefully one at ground level at least :poke:

The one man band shows a degree of self motivation so probably shouldn’t be looked at in the working from home as not working in an organisations office.

We got 6 inches of snow through the night and not having to drive to work... the very best thing about working from home. A 4WD is great but you still have to deal with others on the road. Working from home and letting others deal with that mess...excellent!

Depends on the type of company / work. The big consultancy firms are seeing a more productive work force but the people working for them are more self motivated.

My partner is a director at an accountancy firm. Her staff are motivated but they simply can't work as fast at home on a laptop as they can do in their offices with 2 screens and secured into their network correctly.

I would say that my industry (recruitment) your "high flyers" will be alright but junior consultants? Pa, they tend to need someone over them to learn the ropes etc. Their development is going to have been shocking over the last year (this is the 1st I have thought of this. I bet it's the same in a lot of organisations).

The good consultants that are worth their salt are probably scratching their arses right now and thinking "what is my company offering me right now for the % of my billings they take" (Answer = F**k all).

They set me up with a VPN, I do 2 & 3D CADD, among other tasks, have my dual monitors and a tower so no speed loss with the exception of saving a file. That takes a bit longer then it did at the office but not inordinately so.

They also set me up with a nice, new 3D printer for my home office...keeps me from running to the office to start a print or remove a finished one from a printer.

Gotta admit I will be mildly depressed when they call us back in. One good thing is since I have a tower (all the other department employees have laptops) I will be that last one called back due to the relative lack of portability of the tower.

Plus, a bit back to the "jab" topic, since I am of retirement age if they would require employees to get the vaccine to work from the office I would seriously consider retiring (about 90% sure I would do so but until that choice is reality I can't be 100% sure).

I don't know how anyone can work with just the one monitor! I would struggle.

I hear you. My boss had 2 monitors long before I got mine and I used to think it really wasn’t a big deal but I couldn’t go back. At home on my PC I’m okay with one but at work...no way.

When I am drawing in 3D a space mouse is essential. I learned 3D using just a trackball but just like the 2 monitors, doing 3D without a space mouse is, basically, unthinkable.

Depends what one is doing. Before covid our guys were working a couple of days from home anyhow so it wasn't new to them. In addition they worked from home at weekends and overnight if needed. 24 x 7 operation. I have all my own gear but the company is supplying chairs, desks and the IT kit to go with it. I assume similar companies are doing the same.

I have a hunch why they are probably against home working, because they’ve probably got staff that need a bomb under their arses to get the moving or at least the boss popping in once in a while!
100% this.

My partner has noticed a sizable decrease in the productivity of her team when working from home. I suspect others might be the same.

I will be honest- if I was an employee working from home I would totally be the same :D
I find the opposite is true in most but not all circumstances alas. The firm places trust in you so you repay that trust by not taking the preverbial. If people abuse it then there is a fair chance they are abusing it when in the office but not being caught.

Another reason why I hate the BBC. These are today's figures:

But this is today's BBC coronavirus page. No such 'good' news. They truly need to be de-funded.

The vaccine, the vaccine, the vaccine.....

Havent had a TV licence since Sept 2014 and I'm absolutely behind scrapping the whole lot, they are nothing but partisan propagandists. Looking forward to pretty much all the old media dying

I tend to get my news from several different sources and always understand that evey news outlet has their own political view which tends to colour the information provided. I’m interested where people who don’t use “mainstream media” get their info from

Personally mostly from YouTube via a mix of independent commentators/journalists

People like Tim Pool, The Lotus Eaters, So What You're Saying Is, Triggernometry, The New Culture Forum, Maximilien Robespierre, M101 News, Steven Crowder, The Quartering, Count Dankula, TalkRadio, LBC Radio the latter two there being arguably mainstream. There are a bunch more.

Excellent question and surely effects ones outlook on this topic and all others.

I guess the best way for me to answer is by thinking which site I go to when I first start my computer...that would be Rense.com. A link site which covers soup to nuts. Some would think heavy on the “nut” part but I find many links there that are of interest. Secondly would probably be WhatFinger but that is more USA centered.

Videos, Brighteon and a rather new one, BrandNewTube. I also check NewsBeforeItsNews but I do liken it to the National Enquirer, lots of crap but every now and again they hit one out of the ballpark.

The way I would answer this is to take a step back and see what the MSM is telling you and 'what is the lean'. Then search around for other news sources and see what their 'lean' is. What I have found is that the MSM are clearly aligned to tell a particular story and keep you informed via a particular 'narrative'. See my previous post from earlier today. The BBC are clearly about fear-mongering and not about sharing good news facts. Yes, these are facts. But no, they want to scare and keep up the fear campaign.
You have been now shared a number of news sources to investigate.
I recall a joke I got told a long time ago......
Q: How many psychiatrists does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Only one, but the lightbulb has got to want to change!
It will be easy for most people to pick apart and discredit some of these information sources if they want. Just like it's easy for me to see what MSM is doing.
Look at the alternative sources, keep an open mind, and ask questions.
Here's an example: last night I watched a video about SpaceX and their current launch schedule etc. One of the topics covered was about Elon's issue with the FAA and why that was? They asked the question (rhetorically) was it to do with Elon's political lean and his moving of one of the plants to Texas, a Republican state?
Well today, here is the video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvroMAg_7is&feature=youtu.be
Why does a SpaceX fan-boy news channel's video get pulled because they pose a question that most ask?
On one of the other youtube SpaceX news channels they have moderators working around the clock pulling any negative comments down about Biden. I've seen it with my own eyes. Chat comments disappearing as they are typed.
You have to ask, what kind of democratic system is this?

Absolutely, the answer is that it is not any kind of democratic system, it is the ushering in of a globalist...dare I say it, New World Order, one world government. As I have commented several times in this thread...control. If you want to boil it down to one word, that is the word.

Evil power hungry “people” whose driving force is power. Power and control, they go hand in hand.

There’s always been people in control and there always will be - what does does the alternative society look like?
