Question: How is your model year decided. ? I had a 2009 Z4 s35i, new style tin top , convertible, E89. Model year 2009, purchased in Oct 2009. NO previous gen Z4's are in available with a 2009 model year here in North America . As far as I know....but I could be wrong.

(I've only been wrong a couple of times in my life ...and I divorced both of those *itches  )

the last z4 coupe was manufactured in 2008, but in the UK some late models were not registered untill 2009, therefor these are 2009 models - does that make sense?

i should change the rules for the club, members should only be admitted if they display a forum sticker lol

My car was registered in March 09 some 9 months or so after the build date!! Not sure how long it takes cars to be shipped over from the US but must've been hanging around the show room for a good few month.

Date of registry decides it for you then.

The VIN is coded with the model year and if I did a search I bet it would come up as a 2008.

Over here that car would be depreciated as a year old as soon as it left the lot. It makes a big difference in value when it's a couple of years old .... I don't necessarily agree with it but it seems to be the N.American way.

thanks Taz

not 100% cerntain but i suspect you may be correct

On that note, if anyone knows of a 2002 Z3MR that is hiding in the back corner of a dealership under a tarp, unregistered , I'd love to know.

I'm sure you are absolutely right but in Britain the cars age counts from registration date which is printed in the manual. We are also massive car snobs over here and people wait to buy their new cars when the new registration changes so everybody knows it brand new!!

The old American way of cars... change something every year so people can impress their friends by saying " that's not a '61 Plymouth, it's a '62, look, the headlight trim is different and the fins are an inch higher."

And start the model year 3 or 4 months into the previous year to get a head start on the competition. ( I got a 2013 Audi delivered on Aug 30, 2012) What a bunch of BS ....

It all drives me crazy !! Maybe that's why I just bought an 11 year old Porsche.

Cheers, enjoy the car, whatever year it is.
