Thanks to Road Trip and A11y, respectively, for the routes

The Grossglockner-hochalpenstrasse in Austria is fantastic... Its far FAR better than Stelvio in my opinion which is just too thin, rutty and all tight hairpins (although i did do it in 2006, it may have been resurfaced since!) Ill never forget seeing the Audi R8's being tested there, hooning it back and forth amongst around 12 Audi RS6/S8's 8)

It too has many many hairpins, yet theres plenty of technical on/off camber sweeping and tightening bends too which are just immense. The tarmac is almost perfect also, as can be proved by the sheer amount of bikers that use it!

Just such a shame one of the horses jumps out of the engine virtually every corner you go up!! :driving:

Great photo... agree on the Stelvio, I preferred the more flowing roads with faster corners and the odd hairpin thrown in. Very pleased I did the Stelvio once though.

Would have been great to see the R8s being pushed

The 30 kilometer long road from Sirdal to Lysebotn on the west coast of Norway is a good candidate for one of the best Z4 roads in Europe. Due to the building of power stations, the power company wanted easy access and built the road. It’s now a regular road for everybody. It's mostly a one lane road and consists of nearly 30 hairpin curves together with a tunnel winding 340 degrees in the climb from sea level to approximately 800 meters.

The road seen from the cafe Øygardstøl

I drove the road with the top down this summer, and it was magnificent. On the way down I had to take it easy because of traffic. On the way up there was fortunately no traffic, and I had a very nice time with DCS turned off. When I came to the top, I parked at the café Øygardsstøl (also called “Eagle's Nest”). The back tires were smoking hot and the whole car smelled of burned rubber and clutch. This trip can really be recommended. :D

And if you like hiking, the area have lot of attractions. From the café, it's possible to walk to the "Kjerag bolt". Standing on this bolt is a memory for life.

On the other side of the Lysefjord, it's possible to walk up to "Preikestolen" (pulpit rock), a cliff 1000 meters above the fjord.

I'm living relatively close to the road, so I'm planning to drive the road once more later this year when all the tourists are gone :driving:

Last two pictures are for sure trick shots. Unless the two happy people are having a death wish :!:

Some of the nicest roads I drove in North America with my Z4 was the Mohave Dessert and Highway 1 in California, then in Canada we also have nice roads like between Banff, Alberta and Jasper, Alberta. .... there are of course many more wonderful roads in Canada :)

Here is one of our sites ..... http://travel.aol.ca/article/10-of-canadas-best-road-trips/239414/

Route Napoleon, Umbrail Pass, Col de Isard, Col de Turini, Fluela Pass and Col de Telegraph to name 5 of my favourites. Stelvio is a must drive but to be honest is usually too busy and is so tight its hard to put it as a favourite drive but is an experience. I personally prefer the other, not famous side of Stelvio going to Bormio.

Really happy with the posts. amazing roads. I'm gonna quit my job to travel with my Z4M all over the roads just need petrol :D

Trans Canadian Highway - all of it from Vancouver to Calgary, but in particular Lake Louise to Banff. Did it a few years ago in a PT Cruiser hire car and wished I'd had my roadster with me. :driving:

Know what you mean about the Stelvio - really enjoyed the Fluela (in my first video in fact!), before that the Kleusen was fun... route back was favourite though.... intended route was San Bernardino, St Gothard, Nufenen, Furka and Grimsel Passes, not sure exactly which I did ( ) but had a blast :driving:

OP, liking this thread... can see more trips in my future

I'd agree that the Trans Canada from Vancouver to Calgary is world class from a scenery perspective (although the Icefields Parkway form Banff to Jasper is even better), but it is really quite boring from a driving thrill perspective, I'd take most British B-roads instead. We have a cabin in the mountains halfway between Vancouver and Calgary, so I drive the route once a month or so in the summer, often in the Z4MR.
