The Ashes 2013

Annoying little s**t that Ashton Agar.
To be fair he shouldn't be a number 11, the kid can bat. Think his average in first class cricket is around 35 and he's scored a few 50s.

Correct Ste. Not a bad player.

On the plus side, if the pitch is flattening out, even if Aus level the scores, we should be able to build a nice lead for the pitch to crumble for swanny in the 4th innings!

Prediction... Ashton Agar will be an aussie great in the future.

Agar is really an all rounder. Tremendous knock for 98. Getting that far nobody would have begrudged him getting a ton.
We need to get 500 now. No excuses for our batters.

So, Compton in for Root next test?

Andi.

I would never had played Root as an opener and Trott flatters to deceive. As I say no excuses if we don't get 500. Need a big partnership now.

Not this time  Whoever said 3-1 to England in the series may possibly have the 1st test right :headbang:

Andi.

I always think Root was going to be a risk opening the batting. The sad thing is that he'd do a great job at 6. He was susceptible to the new ball (2nd) against New Zealand on a few occasions when he was well set. I know he opens for Yorkshire, but test cricket is a completely different kettle of fish.

With two openers scoring at 1 an over the bowlers can afford to get aggressive. Cook is going to be watchful, so imo we need a slightly more positive opener to compliment him. I don't think we have many batsmen like that at the moment, unless you take Carberry from Hants?

On a different note, 3rd umpire's had a shocker today.

Firstly gives Agar not out stumped when on about 5 (and Aus still 90 odd behind)....looked out to me, but I can understand some doubt.

Then overturns Trott's LBW, even though the ball looks to deviate just before hitting the pad with no side on angle.

Two big moments in this test?

Gives Agar the benefit of the doubt when unsure but then gives Trott out when theres plenty of doubt especially without the side angle...

Basically my point. I don't mind being cautious, but inconsistency is very frustrating.

Extremely Ashes related.....but moving on from the Liz Hurley point earlier.

Helen Christenson is another lady north of 40 who I would definitely let eat toast in bed.

Interesting discussion, showing that Root doesn't appear to have hit his caught behind. England 49-2 should arguably be 49-0

Should arguably have been 11/0 with the chance to kick on...whos to say what might have happened though they could have fallen straight after the review anyway ;)

No problem with Root as an opener for me, averaging 42.40 in his test career, he'll do fine. Trott gets far too much criticism for me, solid consistent performer.

Ian Bell is the issue i'm seeing right now, if he doesn't post a big score in this innings his place is surely in question. I'd like to see someone like Hildreth or James Taylor in his place, maybe even let Compton have a bit in the middle order.
