The Ashes 2013

I still think a draw is likely here. We haven't batted well first time around. If we can avoid the follow on we'll have maybe 4 sessions to bat out and the pitch is holding up well. Just need another 34 runs and to bat as close to lunch as possible tomorrow.

Australia are doing a good job of making the Indian seam attack look like school kids. Although having said that Ishant Sharma never needed any help with that. Had he not cost India the last game and todays been washed out by rain I think India would be well in the ascendancy.

Having said that the aussie batting line up looks sharp with Bailey, Maxwell and Finch in particular impressive with the bat. Johnson and Faulkner have battled hard on batting tracks with some reward. How this all translates from ODI in India to Tests down under remains to be seen but my prediction is for a very closely fought contest possibly favouring the home side.

Johnson is bowling pretty damn quickly at the moment. If he can keep his form (which he's had since last summers champions trophy) over the winter he could be a danger. I was surprised that he didnt feature in the Ashes last Summer, especially after Stark's lack of form. England are always susceptible to left arm seamers.

Could be a good series.

Johnson does bowl quick, it's the direction he struggles with. For every one good day he has, there's 4 bad ones. We've nothing to fear from the Aussie batsmen, they're not even average, Clark is their one true world class batter. I think their bowling attack is decent. Siddle is a solid, if steady, performer. Harris will take wickets and they've got some good young bowlers coming through but our batting line up is way above theirs. We saw them off this summer with little trouble and we didn't perform to our own usual high standards.
They are in India right up to the beginning of the ashes and for once our preparation is better.

Sit back (til the early hours), get the tinnies in, and enjoy a whitewash.
