The 100k club?

Ok so who has a Z with 100k+ on the clock? Might be a few out there if not that common.

Be interested to hear what models people have with this mileage and what issues they have had along the way (or from whenever they bought it).

Mines not there yet.

I got pretty close but sold my 04 3.0 at 91k. Was running sweet as a nut too.

The 6 cylinder engines are pretty bomb-proof as they were originally designed for 3,5 and 7 series that tend to cover large mileages.

61k on the Z4MC and climbing as fast as ever... a way off 100k I guess, but wouldn't be surprised if I were one of the first M's to reach it. Though I'd rather not be!

I beg to differ

I had a Z3 3.0MSport which i sold at 120k however it had developed the dreaded BMW knock of death.

The issue appears to be that the 3.0 engine uses hydraulic piston which is why this engine uses a lot of oil, and hence they have a finite life span of about 150k or so. I maybe wrong but that was mentioned to me by BMW and a couple of independents so i take it that there is some truth in it.

I believe that this is only an issue on the 3.0 variants - AFAIK

I passed 100k miles last month in my 2003 Z4. Went through four sets of street tires and four sets of R-compound tires racing it on weekends. The only real real problem I had was a poorly connected "B-cable" that kept my battery from properly charging for over a year before the source was discovered (during that year the tech associated claimed that my iPod was draining the battery). Replacing the cable cost me $1200!

my old 2.5 roadster had done 86k when i sold it and was just ran in, had loads left. My current z4mc has done 51k already and considering i do 50k a year, if i dont start sharing it around my fleet a little i'll be there way too quickly :(

Just brought a z4, 2005 with 97k miles. But it runs sweet as a nut, no major problems as of yet recorded.

Joe.

I bought my "03 Z4 roadster with 101K miles on the meter and other than the airbag light it is spot on. BMW used it as a demo/loaner for 1st year. Some may be turned off by that but the way I see it they had to keep it serviced and anything that was going to break, broke, and was fixed by dealer. A lady bought it from the dealership with 13K and used it as a daily driver in 110 mile round trip commute to her business office mostly at 70-80 mph on freeway, very little stop and go.. Her husband was very picky (as I suspect anyway) and car was serviced regularly. Other than battery and tires through 88K it pretty much just took regular oil changes and gas. At 88k the expansion tank was replaced along with (precautionary "while you are there") belts, hoses and tensioner. Rear rotors at 94K when pads were changed. I have put another 2K on it this month as "shakedown" before I have indy tend to airbag light and have engine/transmission (5speed automatic..love it and wanted to get away from shifting for awhile)/differential fluids get changed. Car was very straight without even door dings, but stone chips by the gazillion. Paint had never been detailed but looked good only slightly faded from new...garaged of course, but came back quickly to new with a quick orbital buff and wax afterwards. The stone chips are awaiting arrival of Dr Colorchip kit as i write. Interior was great, seats faded a bit but came right back with some Mother's leather stuff. Rubber trim/seals stuff like that are all as new in looks and function. All in all it has weathered the 103K admirably and gives me SOME hope of being an affordable ride. John

I have a 111k on my 2003 2.5i Z4. I actually posted almost this same exact question in another forum and got little response. After my warranty ran out at 50k, my car has only been at the dealer to turn off the aitbag light I accidently triggered. Other than that, I do all the work myself. Here it is: ESP steering column failure & convertible top motor replacement (both at dealer under warranty around 50k).
Post warranty: starter motor, thermostat failure, lower control arm bushings, intake camshaft sensor, leaky valve cover gasket, 2 *broken* rear springs, broken wire to DM TL pump that kept turning on SES light, and battery. I think that is it. The car still runs great. No oil leaks, and I still have the original rotors.
