That end of a PCP feeling

You think you have a low miles / use car?
I’ve just seen a X reg (1982) MGB with 114miles on the clock-plates remain unfitted!

That would be worth a Bob or Two although I always preferred the Triumph GT6 the poor man's EType :)

The balloon was just over 13k so I think I got a bargain,

Looking at Autotrader private sales these seem to be around the 19k so I could make a profit :?

Tim.

Not sure that's how it works Tim  if you sold for £19k you could get £6k back to buy another car outright but to make £6k profit you would have to have paid £13k for the car & i guess 4yrs of PCP payments will total a touch more than that
Pure guess here on actual monthly figure but 48 months x £350 = £16800 + £13k balloon = £29800 so selling for £19k would be a loss of £10k for the pleasure of 700 miles  but like you say its about the ownership enjoyment

Haha was thinking this just didn’t want to say it.

Another way to look at is, the more mileage you do the sooner the car wears out and ready for scrap, less use its most likely to last longer hence making the most of the money you paid for it :?

Tim.

Trouble is - decent quality cars now happily do 200k
In the olden days when I was a lad, 60’s) 40k miles was getting towards an unreliable engine.

I don’t really see your logic, especially with the car in question.

Not being funny but the whole point of a PCP is hassle free motoring.

You get a new car, it has warranty and you have a mileage limit - which you should max out to get the most out of your monthly payments.

Spending £35,000+ on an M140i for it to sit around for 3 years makes no sense for me. You could easily buy a low mileage 3 year old M140i instead for £20,000 and avoid the £15,000+ depreciation hit.

Doing what you’ve done would make sense on a limited production car such as the 1M or CSL etc as they cost more money now than at the time they were sold, but at the end of the day it’s not my money and completely up to you. :?

None of it makes sense really if the plan at the start was to keep the car at the end.

What your missing is in 20 years time everyone will be wanting an M140i so watch this space

 :D nothing like positive thinking :P hope your dreams come true

Although looking at my neighbours Escort RS Cosworth I think I made the wrong choice

If it’s a definite keeper for the next 10-15yrs then I get it completely. As Tim says there is a lot of satisfaction having a car in showroom condition all the time, half the pleasure is just that...it’s weird but I get it 100%... Go to the garage, take the dust sheet off, there is a mint spotless car paid for...you have to have the crazy mindset but over that length of time it makes it worth it no matter the make or model of car, if it floats your boat it floats your boat. :D

We all did Tim....with hindsight back in the day I’d have taken a mortgage and bought a dozen Escorts and RS 500’s....!! 12 of those now with delivery miles would net you 1.2 million easily for an initial cost of approx £300k with buyers climbing over themselves to get to you..! £800k with all storage expenses included, profit ain’t to be sniffed at...!

What, 20 years at 5 miles per week to get your £20,000 back?

Good luck

I’m not sure about that, in 20 years time it’s probably going to be difficult/prohibitively expensive to buy petrol as the push towards battery power gathers momentum. The road tax will more than likely become laughable as well as governments “encourage” drivers away from fossil fuel

I dread to think what motoring will be like in 20 years, I dare say I will be a social pariah daring to drive a 6 cyl petrol engined car, that's if you can get petrol by then

Counter acted by the low cost of purchase compared to a new electric vehicle...? The folk that went out and changed diesel cars purely as the fuel was lower had to spend on average 10-15k to change....thats a lot of fuel to burn to equal it out no....? Especially if you weren’t in any great shakes to change car.

I think that in 20 years time, the second-hand cars people will be looking to buy will be the 1 year old electric models with a 400 mile range.
