Thanks Ron, its a strange one when discussing the use of a car and mileage etc, some people seem to get quite upset when they see others using a car so little, unsure why really.

I know a chap who bought an Escort RS Cosworth 4x4 back in 1995 and still has it, with original tyres still on the car, he never uses it and it just sits in his garage, the car is still :D immaculate but just not used. I'm unsure he knows what its worth now, must be over 30k but even I think if he never uses it at all, its kinda pointless owning it.

Have to say I keep looking at Lancia Fulvias at the moment, I see to have developed a real urge to go have a look at one and see if I like them :? Prices of nice exampes ae creeping up though.

Tim.

If that Cosworth is still on original tyres then the mileage must be under 10k Tim as they chew fronts like an F1 car.... So if it’s that kind of mileage one owner minter you’re looking at £70-80k easily, the price of RS fords in mint nick are off the scale.

I did look at prices around 2 years ago and the RS Escort Cosworths were going for around 35/40K so at 70/80k I wished I'd bought one back then :D

Not really appealed to me that much though, nice if you had bought one at the time and kept it but I couldn't bring myself to spend todays monies on one.

Tim.
Saw 2 of these together last weekend.
1 of them is normally outside a garage on the outskirts of the town, not a particularly good part of it either.
Cool looking cars and you dont see many of them around.

You can pick a high mile knacker up for £40k but It'll very likely have hidden rot, a dodgy history, different shades of paint etc, etc, a car worth buying with good history, no rot and reasonable miles is going to set you back £55k plus minimum. I wish I’d bought a barn full of them new.....

I don't see the problem Tim.

You got a great car with the exact spec you wanted and have had the pleasure of owning it - what it cost is up to you, although I wouldn't have been able to resist the temptation of driving it more!

Back in 2008 I bought a pre-registered 123d that I kept for 6 and a half years and sold for about £15.5K less than I paid for it - although I did put 81K miles on it because I was doing business miles with it and getting a monthly car allowance.

So I lost more on that car than I paid for my Z4MC last year, but it was the right thing at the time!

Have you had it serviced and mot’d Tim?
It’s probably sorn’d but an mot cert would be yet more validation of mileage and the service is time based.

If there’s some on AutoTrader for £19k I feel you could be well justified for asking a good chunk more than “top book” when / if the time comes.

Just had its 4 year major service and second MOT Ron, not sorned as yet as still a little time for a few more drives before winter steps in :)

One thing that pays you to do is check the service history on the idrive as hadn't realised the dealer hadn't recorded the first service on there so 2 years later had to get them to put it on. Poor really considering how much a service costs :x

Tim.

I hope you had a service pack!
When I bought the 35is in Sept 16 I bought one - £525 but it’s paid for itself by about £300 - the service agent told me nearly £300 for the first service and A nearly £600 for the second. Add the brake fluid into the mix and it’s looking fairly pricey.
They must have been good value as BMW don’t do the five year plan any more.

The 35is still has a hard copy / service book as it’s older generation software I guess.

Afraid I didn't take out the service pack at the time Ron, I was a bit tighter with money back in 2016

Just trying to think, first oil service in 2018 was around £230, brake fluid in 2019 was something like £136 and major service in July was £610 including MOT :o so you're about right on saving a few 100.

Still I won't be seeing a major service for a while now :)

You have to ask why it would need a major service.
What did they do for the major service anyway on a car with so little miles?

To be honest I was in two minds and thought of just keeping it to some fresh oil but I go by time than mileage :lol: which is what BMW recommend so at 4 years its a major service which includes;

Service standard scope,
Engine oil service,
Microfilter service,
Intake silencer service,
Spark plug service,
Service vehicle check?
Complimentary electronic vehicle safety check,

Tim.

I’ve just had a major service on mine 4years and 12k
Most bits wouldn’t need changing _ Being suspicious I wonder if they have!

I would be pretty surprised a BMW franchised dealer or any for that matter trying that trick, it wouldn't be in their interest to risk it really for the sake of loosing the franchise over not doing the service and fleecing the customer?

Tim.

It’s just my suspicious nature and I’m sure you’re correct.
To be fair to them I’ve generally been treated very well by them and have always been able to give them a

I know as others have said it's your money to do with as you wish, that said when you post on a forum you have got to expect a range of comments,.I think in this time of uncertain times when we have idea what's around the corner ,you have been driving around in a mundane small hatchback for the last four years and still plan to carry on doing when you have that cracking six cylinder motor itching to be used ,sitting in your garage.I hope you don't live to regret your decision as you can't buy back lost years.

I'm sure I won't  I enjoy the car when its is used but I hope I'm not tempting fate :?

I can't believe this has been 4 years Tim. I remember you getting it like it was yesterday! I did expect you to put a few more miles on it than you have though! :D
