Test Driving a 3.5iS

Well, in this weather, if the roof gets stuck halfway you're bound to get a bit of water in the cabin

Stick with the simpler #69. These E89's need a warranty that's for sure.

I wouldn't say the E89 is any worse than the old model, didn't the old model suffer waterlogged roof pumps, broken springs etc. I haven't come across any new model horror stories upto now, some trim rattles and water in the rear light units but not much else?

Tim.

Easy to diagnose most issues on a E85/6, but where would you start on a E89. E brake, micro switched all over the roof etc....

So many electrical systems on new cars think its much harder to DIY.

Don't do it!!! E85/86 rules the Z world!! Look forward to the gradual updates on this, must agree with others though it's probably an omen, stick with the Alpina, or get an MC

Never had any real issues with my first e89 in 3 1/2 years!
Dancing windows and the odd rattle not a problem to put up with to have those looks

It was a regular with Kevinmarkwhite and JDM had issue with water through side windows but overall there have been no real probs. I was all set get the old coupe but the E89 to me is just so much more versatile for every day use (bar winter use  ).

Tim.

Much as i loved my E89 and had no problems at all;your Alpina is a future classic, can you afford to keep both?

Have you got a new test drive booked then Stu?

I'd have thought that the salesdroid would have been pestering you to come back and test/buy the car as, if there is any quota pressure for the end-of-quarter/half-year/year, it's down to the wire now

Not a peep. Maybe they couldn't get the part in quickly through the holiday period, or maybe the salesman wasn't lying that that last lot were interested.

It's a nice car (actually it's a gorgeous car) but I'm over getting starry eyed about cars (unless they have a prancing horse on the logo) and I'm in no hurry to get rid of #69 so if they've sold it to someone else, so be it

Funny, I had a similar experience when I bought my Golf. I asked the dealer to work out a cost to change and heard nothing for over a week. If they were playing "who blinks first?", they lost! It took them ages to come back but when they did, they made me an offer that was almost too good to be true

Aborted. It's going nowhere. The technician is scratching his head, they've never seen a roof do this before. It looks like one of the microswitches has failed, one side says the roof is closed, the other says its moving (according to his computer that he's poring over)

Happened to my dad's E89 while he was out. Drove it home very slowly, and it went to BMW on a flatbed.

Result: completely new roof mechanism, took weeks.

I'd hate to get handed that bill at the service counter... warranty required, methinks!

Sensible attitude... cars are like buses, there'll be another one along soon

Certainly not! My dad's car was 6mths old at the time.

Something to be said for the simple softtop on the E85.

If you miss the white one Stuart here's another 3.5 just down the road from me . silver though ?

Its nice  i like it a lot

After reading Maniac's thread on the E89 i would agree with you Stuart , no wonder the 89's are dropping so fast .
makes a cayman look appealing :P

I really don't think it's reliability that's dropping the price.. An easy assumption but if that were the case it would affect all models no? The 35i/is is dropping because a) it was more expensive in the first place and b) people (at least the masses) don't want fuel guzzlers anymore.
