Test Drive

Testing both an E89 20i and an E89 28i tomorrow. Looking forward to it but I just know the 28i will make me want to spend the extra and say to hell with it.

It's not as well specced as the 20i but I think power wins over toys every time.

Metallic Mineral White with coral red leather too. Looks amazing in the flesh. :driving:

BMW need to include more toys/options as standard. It's a miracle they include a steering wheel and even that needs upgrading.

You mean like leather-standard, xenon headlights-standard, servotronic steering-standard, bluetooth-standard, dab radio-standard, climate control-standard, etc

Easy to think these cars are skimpy but they're not. It's the huge option list that makes you think that way.

I suppose at least all the extra safety features eg extra airbags are standard. Would not like to have to choose between heated seats and an airbag.

The M Sport standard spec is pretty good if you ask me, the only thing I specced over and above was heated seats and folding mirrors, would have liked extended lighting which I had on the 5 door 1 series but didn't see the point on a 2 door roadster :| I can see I would have spent more on the Standard Z4.

I really miss the parking sensors I had on my one series. I thought the same as you about it being a coupe but can still not judge how far back I can go even after 3 weeks with her..I just think I am used to having another set of seats behind me

I'm a bit the opposite :) had PDC front and rear of both my previous 1 Series but didn't spec them on the Zed, only time I miss them a little is when parking in the garage but generally it doesn't bother me too much, maybe with having the Z3 for the past 5 years I've just got used to a long bonnet and short rear. Think I prefer the smoother bumpers than having the sensors on them.

I have to use a BT pole and someone's upstairs windows down the road as a guide ...when I have them lined up I know im far enough up the drive ..

Well my test drive is done. Didn't even bother in the end with the 20i, just put the deposit down on the 28i instead. Well pleased!

I pick it up on Friday! :D

Sadly im old enough to have bought an e30 3 series and if you think standard spec is stingy now I have no idea what you would have thought about one of those , I remember my dear old dad being a bit puzzled that I wanted to go from a well specced ford electric windows/roof stereo alloys to a car where you had to pay extra for those

Free Xenons are a bonus but PDC and cruise are must haves and should be standard. I bought second hand and these requirements really limited my choices

Its all subjective isn't it tho? Xenons are a requirement for me, for safety. PDC and cruise can already be taken care of by looking and driving respectively. I would not agree that PDC and cruise are essential.

same for me I have never used cruise control and have had it on the last several cars I have owned. As to what should be standard I'm old enough to remember
when a radio was an optional extra!
