You will be jealous of my £190 for my X5M
Only cos it's old now and post 2017 reg.
Stupid Government. One minute it's calculated on CO2, but that was too complicated for the civil servants to keep up with, so they did a 'blanket' RFL for anything registered after March 2017. So much for the UK's commitment to climate change. And they wonder why we don't believe a word any of them say. :x

Your CO2 belching 4.4 litre twin turbo V8 is now cheap. Why? Cos the UK Government are LAZY and couldn't give a s**t about global warming.
:(

That's a bargain, it could be much worse!

My 2005 330i costs £415 a year and my Z4M a mere £735. :(

Nope. No joke. It's the UK Government's way of helping the planet. Buy a 2017 car. It will be £190 p/a.

Makes me laugh that 20% of all your petrol costs are tax, yet no-one really complains about that. If you did 40,000 miles a year the RFL would be the same, yet you would pay £2,000 in tax for that mileage.

And if you are really worried about paying RFL, buy an EV. They are free (at the minute).

But the Abarth is more than that?
Only if it's pre-2017 and comes under the 'CO2 emissions' regs.
A 'gas-guzzling' car registered after 2017, as long as it's over the six year 'rich tax' threshold, will pay £190 this year; doesn't matter what it is.

But don't hold your breath, cos 'our Kier' will be onto that. If your car is worth more than £20 he will be looking at taxing you off the road, to make way for the 'deserving people'.

I'm sure my X6 was £185 last year.
£735 is an absolute joke though. It doesn't seem that long ago it was around £500 for an M

What a scam  I pay $31+ $5 annually for each car to the State of Ohio - nothing Federal. If I'm inclined to pay for several years in advance (up to 5), it's $31* # of years +$5. :fuelfire: I also don't have the government chasing me for an annual tailpipe sniff. No MOT here.

We don't do a lot of nonsense, either, about those disposable EVs. If people like them and it makes them feel all good about themselves, so be it. That's the same reason I like my Zed

You are right, it is £190 (it is a mid 2017 one).

It probably wasn't. My first year with my M cost £570 in January 2020.

Looking at the brochure it was Band G in 2006 and cost £210! Then that miserable non-driver Gordon Brown invented Bands A to M in 2009 and applied Bands L and M retrospectively to cars registered after 23 March 2006, earlier registered cars didn't pay more than Band K. :headbang:

Time flies. It seems it was £500 for an M in 2015.

lol as always pondrew missing the nature of the post.

I have an M and aware I was nearly making a statement that it is a Joke for these cars.

My first Z4M back in 2011 I think it was about £435 so we are close to doubling.

Yeah, and a loaf of bread was about 70p, now £1.50.

Missing the point, though, probably!

Tax on petrol is more like 50% overall 8) :| :driving:

The previous government change in Vehicle Tax in 2017 was probably one of the worst and unfair decisions ever made. Not just because there is a massive increase from a static and arbitrary P11D figure, no it is that it has nothing to do with efficiency or the polluting capability of the vehicle you choose. The theory that electric cars are more environmentally friendly and should thus be excluded is murky at best, and the mining of cobalt and lithium is absolutely not green.

The recent publicised proposal to charge drivers per mile, seems fair, but I don't see how it can be instigated retrospectively and again does not differentiate how green your car is. The CO2 figure, in my opinion was the fairest, charge a minimum fee for zero rated cars, say £150 a year and if you have a big dirty V8, yes you PVR, Charge a £1000 per annum.
