Nope. No joke. It's the UK Government's way of helping the planet. Buy a 2017 car. It will be £190 p/a.tomscott said:£735 is a joke isnt it

Only if it's pre-2017 and comes under the 'CO2 emissions' regs.pvr said:But the Abarth is more than that?

I pay $31+ $5 annually for each car to the State of Ohio - nothing Federal. If I'm inclined to pay for several years in advance (up to 5), it's $31* # of years +$5.
I also don't have the government chasing me for an annual tailpipe sniff. No MOT here.Pondrew said:Only if it's pre-2017 and comes under the 'CO2 emissions' regs.pvr said:But the Abarth is more than that?
A 'gas-guzzling' car registered after 2017, as long as it's over the six year 'rich tax' threshold, will pay £190 this year; doesn't matter what it is.
But don't hold your breath, cos 'our Kier' will be onto that. If your car is worth more than £20 he will be looking at taxing you off the road, to make way for the 'deserving people'.![]()
Ouch. Didn't realise it had gone up so much since I last owned one.tomscott said:£735 is a joke isnt it

Time flies. It seems it was £500 for an M in 2015.Mr Tidy said:Nictrix said:£735 is an absolute joke though. It doesn't seem that long ago it was around £500 for an M
It probably wasn't. My first year with my M cost £570 in January 2020.
Looking at the brochure it was Band G in 2006 and cost £210! Then that miserable non-driver Gordon Brown invented Bands A to M in 2009 and applied Bands L and M retrospectively to cars registered after 23 March 2006, earlier registered cars didn't pay more than Band K.![]()

Makes me laugh that 20% of all your petrol costs are tax, yet no-one really complains about that. If you did 40,000 miles a year the RFL would be the same, yet you would pay £2,000 in tax for that mileage.
And if you are really worried about paying RFL, buy an EV. They are free (at the minute).
Yeah, and a loaf of bread was about 70p, now £1.50.tomscott said:My first Z4M back in 2011 I think it was about £435 so we are close to doubling.
