Tax - Petrol UK. What would it take before you gave up!

In the UK, how much more of a rise in petrol, road tax and insurance would it take before you gave up and sold your Z4?
Seeing as the tax on Co2 is going up on increments in the next 2 years and people are saying that the £1.50 a litre by the middle of summer and the £2 a litre of petrol by the end of the year is a real possibility!! :o :(

My road tax a year is now higher than my insurance!! :x

A way to go for me yet, but I am starting to think!

Also, what is this going to do on the resale prices of our Z's when we come to sell them!! :o
 
Guess that depends how much one uses their car... For me I only use it at weekends mostly so not much of an issue - yet :?

£150 a litre would really be the final straw - did you mean £1.50 :P

£1.5-2 a litre will start getting expensive even for me though....

But hey I have fun driving the car so what price do you put on that :D
 
Just think of it, £2 a litre - a lot of people will leave the car behind. Great, I will get even more fun with my cars as the roads will finally be empty :D

That would require drastic action.

The missus would have to walk to work for a start..........a couple of grand for her car plus what we'd save on tax/insurance etc would pay for an extra couple of gallons of go-faster juice for my Zed :D :driving: :D
 
Philosophico, like your thinking. However the divorce settlement will negate all of your short gains though :P
 
Mine is also a weekend car so i am OK at the mo and my Tax runs out next Jan so get one more year at the current price :D

The Z4 was a big event for me never thought of owning such a lovely car had to work a lot of hours to buy so have no thoughts on selling up for at least a few years will make cut backs else where for my petrol like not going down the pub so much saves a fortune just wish i had realized this when i was younger.
 
Z4's mostly a weekend car for me but if petrol does get to £2.00 a litre I'll have to start cutting back on non-essentials like bread, milk,(I could do with loosing a few pounds) and beer. Well maybe not beer.
 
I've only had mine for a couple of months, so it will take a lot more to make me sell. That's unfortunate for my pocket :(

Isn't about time the government capped the tax!!
 
I'm thinking about buying a Smart car for driving to work, with the saving in fuel it would almost pay for itself, and definitely would if petrol keeps going up to say £1.75 a litre.
 
I noticed the premium here in Louisiana just went up to $4.09 a gallon. This is going to be a painfull drive back to Las Vegas.

Trying to sell on cars that are quite thirsty could prove a nightmare in a year or two. Obviously we will have to see how the credit crunch pans out and the knock-on effects to see if petrol prices stabilise. But, its a big concern.

If you start calculating how much per mile your spending and think of it in terms of a thrill ride, its wont be any cheaper than getting through the gates at Alton Towers! :x

If it hits £2 a litre, thats the equivalent of nearly $20 a US gallon!

At that level I would really have to think hard, but I doubt I would give my car up; I view it as more than just transport, it's my hobby, so a 1.4TDI Fabia just isn't going to cut it for me.
 
I guess the issue really is what is the alternative? If I lived in London the alternative would be public transport, but as I am up north this really is not an option.

If I am to keep driving then the alternative would be a car that is lighter on petrol, but lets face it you won't get THAT much more economy from a different car.
 
And with the hit you take on buying / selling cars, the loss is enough for years of petrol ...
 
I was listening to a news report this morning that was saying the recent sharp rises were indicative of prices hitting a peak and that could mean possible reductions in the not too distant future...here's hoping :|
