Tar Remover...white drips

Washed our cars this weekend for the first time since March (I know, shoot me now!).

Both are alpine white (Debs is a 116d and mine a 20i Z4).

Both are covered in tar spots but mine is awful.

They need a full on decontamination job with tar remover, fallout remover, clay (Mit?) etc etc and whilst I have the stuff, I just can't be arsed.

Doesn't get more honest than that!

From a few meters away they look lovely now they've had a wash, but step closer and they are a bit nasty.

The last time I used tar remover when leaving to dwell, the drips coming off were chalky white in colour, as if it was dissolving the paint! From memory I'm sure this was at the tar stage, not fallout remover stage (but might be wrong).

So is this correct, or was it melting my paint or what? It dried on the driveway and stained it for a while.

Cant remember what products but is it common?

I'm thinking of taking them to the local koso-wash and just getting them to do those two stages, or actually just the tar removal.

I use tardis tar remover & it definitely doesn’t dissolve the paint! It’s not that hard to do, get some motivation

I think Kero drips white. Tardis may have kero in it. I know it sounds heavy duty, but you can 'mix'/add some kero in water and rinse the tar spots off yourself. just wipe them off then rinse straight off.

I've used AG ITR in the past no probs with that product and no need to let it dwell you can see the tar start to run down the sides of the car almost straight away i think it removes any protection that you have applied so best to use before a full detail.

But does it drip white?

I think it was tardis I used, also some Car Chem stuff at some point in the past.

I don’t have any drips, just dampen a microfibre with it & it does the job

So I ordered some of the tardis yesterday from autosmart.

Also got some of their wheel cleaner/fallout remover.

....and some other bits from clean your car.

Rob...if you put it on a cloth do you have to rub it much? I’ve tried that in the past and it never really seemed to do much. Don’t forget, at the moment I’ve got loads, not just a few spots.

I’m thinking of spraying it on and having it melt the tar like gaza62 says.

My cars never been too horrendously infected, damp microfibre’s always worked well for me. Tar spots tend to harden and form a skin so a bit of elbow grease makes them disappear better than just spraying & leaving in my experience.

Sounds like you keep on top of it, unlike me 😂

Do you re apply protection after? I use c2v3 so not a hardship to apply.

Weather looking crap for the weekend, that’s about right!

Yes, the Tardis strips wax from the area worked on so i put something there even if it’s just a detailing spray.

Sorry OP i should have said i did not spray it on i used an MF cloth which i had squirted the ITR onto then worked the tar spot which caused the tar to run down the bodywork but i find i never seem to get any tar spots on the Z may be due to all the layers of protection

The Tardis arrived today along with a load of other shiz. Putting it in my "detailing products" cupboard in the garage I found a bottle of Meguires stuff :headband:

I think the key is to keep on top of things, so a few small spots each wash instead of ignoring it and then having lots build up. And they've been there a while so well stuck on I guess.

Do you just buy cheap sacrificial MF cloths and just bin them when they eventually get too manky?

I usually get decent mf cloths & they gradually work their way down the food chain from polishing duties - tar removal - cleaning greasy motorbikes :P

Well if you all want a good laugh at my misfortune....

I was planning on doing both cars this weekend.

Look at the weather for North Devon on Sat and Sun and chuckle away! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
