Tag-Heuer 6000 quartz

You can't beat Rolex IMO. Mines worth more now than when I bought it 6 years ago.

I'm on the waiting list now for a Daytona too. Could be a long wait.

Mine as well.

Mine is the daytona ordered in 2002 then was at Dubai and had a good offer on one stainless with gold.

Lovely watch imo. Poor timekeeper though.

If I may be so bold as to ask. Why then would you want a multi thousand dollar watch that you know will keep rubbish time. No insult meant nor intended. But. is it about showing the size of your bank account. As opposed to keeping track of time? I would think if you only wanted something nice to look at. Maybe a local artist's original oil painting would be good.

To be honest. I love the looks of my Tag and it has kept great time. And I wear it all the time. But it has proven to be rather fragile. I would never have bought it if my friend hadn't offered it to me for $400 USD/ 250 quid. But given it's reliability so far. It wasn't even worth 250quid. I would have been better off getting something like a Seiko Kinetic.

I don't wear it but as discussed up here its a good investment.

The others are worthless second hand.

Imagine you buy something then use it then you sell it and make money after having used it.

Sounds good?

I wear my Omega every day. It is the smaller faced version, as I hate the large diameter watches. It has a black face, and I changed the metal strap to a black rubber one (another £300!!!).

My watch keeps very good time. ok, it might lose a few seconds each month, although I havent noticed it over the past few.

I was interested in a nice good quality watch for years before I got it, and could never decide on one.

I didn't actually realise that mechanical watches weren't 100% accurate....my previous watch, a £30 Casio wave ceptor synched with the atomic clock every night!

I certainly didn't get my watch to "show the size of my bank balance"....cos anyone who knows me knows I'm in stupid debt! I got it to feel good about myself and to enjoy a nice possession. True, cheaper watches do a better job (my Casio actually!), and true, the money could be spent elsewhere. But then, we dont need Z4's do we? A cheap super mini is probably more practical than a Z4!

Lol wel said!

My watches give me the same pleasure as my Z - Omega Seamaster and IWC Portuguese. A joy to own.

The IWC Portuguese really is a thing of beauty.

Everyone speaks highly of IWC.

Cant relate to it to be honest.

I am not an expert but experienced buyers i know love IWCs.

I don't get the whole multi thousand £ watch thing either. I just don't see how they can ever be worth that much.

I understand how one could be attracted. They are beautiful. I'm just disappointed that for all that money. They don't seem to work very well and require frequent maintenance. That's why I compare them to the high end cars like Ferrari. Things of beauty. But they seem to fall apart if you dare use them. But they sure look good in the garage. It's like the line from chief Dan George in the movie "the outlaw Josey Wales" "All I have is a piece of hard rock candy. But it’s not for eatin’. It’s just for lookin’ through".

I would have never guessed a high dollar watch isn't for seeing what time it is. It's about being seen seeing what time it might be. Or as kevinmarkwhite said. It was an indulgence to please himself. Which is fine.

My Omega is very strong, and although I wouldn't want to test its durability, I reckon it will withstand plenty. It has the sapphire crystal glass to stop scratching.

Mine works fine. ok, so it could lose a few seconds a month, but as I said, I havent noticed this for the past few months.

Mine only requires a service about every 8 years, so I wouldn't say it doesn't work very well or require frequent maintenance.

As it was so expensive though, I think a maintenance option is a valid thing, as it is a precision instrument. With a throw away item its not so important.

At the end of the day though, any such purchase is an indulgance, cos as said, much cheaper options exist.

As above..

Waste of bloody money...

I bought and sold watches for 20 yrs and the the most expensive quartz movement you can buy is under £5..

The cost of any watch should be in the movement.

I have taken a few tags on deals over the years and they are mostly cheap tat superbly marketed..

So can I take it from your post. That BMW and their silly expensive maint. Requierments on engines that are no more stressed than a honda V6. Means they are cheap tat superbly marketed. :fuelfire:

Compared to a Ford, probably, yes! :P

I had a lot more trouble free motoring when I used to buy Fords than I have with anything from BMW (inc MINI). BMW's just look better though! Bit the same as expensive v cheap watches. :P

Back to watches, 10 years ago I bought a Casio G-Shock watch. Only ever changed the battery twice and it still just works and works. Dropped it, worn it mountain biking and bashed it. Not a problem. Even the strap is still fine!

The latest in my Tag watch dilema. The Tag dealer just called to inform me that the watch needs to go back to Tag for 300 Euro's of repair work. Yikes! Looks like my good deal $400 watch has inflated to the cost of a new one. :x From now on. Any time I see someone wearing an expensive Swiss watch. I'll just laugh on the inside and remember the old saying. A fool and their money are soon parted. Looks like Seiko, Luminox, Pulsar for me from now on. you know! Those cheesy commoner watches that are NOT made of paper mâché and actually work as advertized. At least I paid no more than top end Seiko money for my Tag POS.

Love watches, have quite a few, none above the £600 mark though. What pi$$es the wife off though, is I rarely wear a watch
Would also love a Breitling, but have never managed to justify it.

They are worth only what you are prepared to pay - we're all prepared to part with multi thousand £ depreciation on beautiful, well designed and engineered desirable BMW's so why not a beautiful, well designed and engineered watch?

I used to be one of those that thought along the lines of the following. Someday when I've had a little bit of success I want to treat my self to a really nice watch. In my eyes. It was all a ruse.
I simply wanted a high end watch because I was under the (false) assumption that the high end watches are more expensive because they are far more rugged (well built) and accurate than the lowly Timex, Seiko's out there.
I seem to have an apparently unreasonable understanding of quality when a watch is expensive. I didn't realize that in the modern world. More $ means less quality and not so accurate time keeping.

Sorry to be such a whiner about this subject. But it just gets me going when companies who once had a reputation for making quality instruments. Just pump out over priced but pretty junk. And just ride the coat tails of their former glory when it comes to pricing. As attested to when I looked up an old Omega add from 1955. The 1955 Seamaster watch that sold for $95 should be $800 when adjusted for inflation. Yet it sells for $3000 and up. That's 360% over inflation. That's the equivalent to a new E89 that should sell for $50,000 is actually priced at $230,000. But then the E89 is a precision instrument and it's pretty. So I guess it would be worth it.

A watch is worth what its value is.

A diamond is a piece of graphite.

Is it really worth so much? No.

But go buy a 1 carat stone and tell me if it brings tears to your eyes when they mention the price.

Is the Pagani Zonda/Insert top end sports cars/ worth that kind of money.

Probably no.

Is the sum of its parts worth so much?

No.

But thats what product placement and market share dictates.

I Have a chrome titanium d&g watch girlfriend bought it for me about 4 years ago was around £600 wotks flawlessly bit in all honestly she bought me a limited edition yellow Casio watch about 3 years ago and I can't fault it. Been scuba diving with it. Wear it to gym and sauna every week and haven't even had change battery on it.
