Symptoms of broken front springs?

Terrible noise from front of car tonight which increased with road speed

A quick look with a torch and it looks the gap between the front wheels and the wheel arches is down to a mm or two

Is this broken front springs?

Certainly sounds like it and if it is the spring will probably be touching the tyre so be very wary before you drive it..Worth getting a blanket out and getting on the floor in daylight to check properly.
