Swapping run flat tyres for non run flat tyres.

Looking to swap my run flat tyres on my BMW Z4 2003 2.5i.Finding the ride rather harsh on my local A roads.Any recommendations.
 
Hi there. Number one factor would be your budget. How much do you want to spend ? What's your driving style ? Do you require maximum performance or do you value longevity over ultimate grip ?
People on here like Vredestein, Uniroyal, Goodyear, Continental and Michelin...amongst others. I ran Avon ZZ5 for years which were great all-rounders at their price point but recently changed to Michelin Pilot Sport 4 which have been a revelation to me in terms of dry grip....but I'm not expecting them to last very long :roll:
 
I bought mine with Avon ZZ5 tyres and they seem fine although a bit bouncy and crashy and the car seems to wonder a little if I don't keep an eye on what I'm doing. Don't think they make them anymore though. Have no experience with the Pilot Sports but they come highly recommended on here.
 
I recently swapped some fairly fresh yokohama run flats for Goodyear Asymmetric 6s. Can attest to every good thing said about them. Crashy ride and wandering steering can also be due to tired suspension/ poor alignment which I fixed first. Quality non-RFT tyres were the icing on the cake.

Yes, I saw that on YouTube yesterday, very in depth but I wonder what they would be like on a car with harsher suspension like a Z4.
 
Michelin Pilot Sport 5 XL. Fuel/noise/grip very good and a beautiful sport design. The XL is extra load, less hard than the run flats. More smooth ride than run flats. Razor sharp steering.

In simple terms no..however many tyres only come in a XL rating in specific sizes…
 
Thank you B21, I've often wondered with the Zeds as we need them on my wife's Ford Focus Cab but that's to do with the weight of the roof and mechanism.

Most modern tyre load ratings especially the wider ones are such that you could almost carry the load on just one front and one rear tyre…

Do a search on the forum as this subject may have been posted once or twice since 2007!

Also get the bushes checked then a Hunter alignment.

The difference will shock you if the alignment is off at at the moment.
 
I got the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 a couple of years ago, made the car much better to drive (the tyres on it originally were quite old and I'd be thrown all over the road with them). Not sure about the other tyre brands. Part of my decision was the good overall wet performance in the tests which is super important in the UK in my opinion. There's usually good offers on during black Friday, like 20% off tyres so now's a good time to purchase

I’ve got Continental SCs. Quiet and seem to last for ages, but most of the time I’m driving like a granny.
