Surrey Meet - Sun 25th November

So we are meeting at 0730 and then driving for 5 hours to have lunch at 1230. Not sure I've driven for 5 hours before but I imagine it'll be tiring.

Would it not make more sense to meet at 0730 then drive for a couple of hours and have a big breakfast somewhere? Maybe even go on a loop and end up where we start off from?

Just my 2 pence worth.

This had crossed my mind although I think that a 7:30 meet time means we won't start driving till after 8am anyhow as there will be stragglers and chat etc etc and I do not possess the great leadership skills of craig.3.0 :D to get everyone on their way.

Also I had anticipated some stops for pics and what with nearly 20 cars this could take a while so might fill some time till lunch no?

Early bird catches the worm.....best hoonage first thing on a Sunday morning. Get the interesting bits done before the old farts clog up the road later for their weekly jaunt in their Austin Maxi.

TBH I think a 7:30 start is way to early even leaving at 8:00. It's one thing in the middle of summer, but at the arse end of November it's something else.

Is the route sorted? This to me would dictate the start time more than anything.

I'm having laptop issues all this week so have only had my phone. Will visit the rentals this weekend to use their comp and look at the route.

Do we want to drive on empty roads or have a quiet leisurely cruise? 8am the latest start I reckon to get clear roads

Remember first calls were for 7am meet which was put back to 7:30 .

Lets stick with he plan - meeting @ 07:15 for chat & call of nature, then leaving at 07:30 sharp

Agreed - what are peoples expectations in terms of driving time. A couple of hours max should be fine in my opinion.. Its supposed to be a meet rather than a drive right?

The best hours of driving are between 7am and 9am.

Any later; and it clogs with traffic
Any longer than 2 hours 'spirited' driving; and you will wish you were back in bed... (and please don't look at the time indicated on Google Maps for routes, that refers to busy school runs)

7.30am will make for a good day and I recommend that setting off then is stuck to rigidly... one way or another though this needs to be set in stone otherwise this thread is going to extend to 19 pages faster than you can blink...

err.... http://goo.gl/maps/r6kkz

This seems to be the route so far... perhaps setting the destination further away from the start point would be better because the road surrounding aren't that great, containing speed humps and traps all over the place... trust me, this is my hobby and these are my 'hunting' grounds.

I suggested heading to Port Solent for late breakfast instead of making stops for breakfast and lunch, because it will be too early/late for either and the roads get better as you go further afield - although I also have detours to West Meon or Bognor Reigis if that suits everyone better(I have an ITN of my route suggestion available to whoever PM's me).

I think people are forgetting its the end of November, temperatures aren't going to be very high, it could even be freezing and still dark around 7:30. Depends what people I guess I'm only interested in this from the social side at this time of year, following cars around for hours on end isn't my idea of fun in the conditions we might have.

Just catching up on this... 7.30, you guys are early worms!!!

If it is that earlier i agree with the suggestion of a breakfast somewhere... Dont think i'll be allowed to play from 7.30 till after lunch :(

Ok so in summary, we gather at 0700 for a greet & meet hugging session ;) and then leave for 0730 sharp from Newlands.

Juniorjet, you've suggested a few routes to Port Solent, west meon and Bognor Regis. Which one has the best breakfast place that can accommodate 20+ cars? Maybe we can make a decision based on that.

Apologies for stepping on anyone's toes regarding the route but ideally it needs to be 2 hours max. Any more and we risk accidents, crashes, rear-ends etc....

Thought of that; all 3 do, the west meon location has 2 stops parallel to each other ranging from "nice pub" to "biker's diner", personally Port Solent is my favourite of the 3.

Can someone please conform the route time etc as I want to be sure it is do able from Suffolk and back at that time of year before I commit to it. many thanks :)
