SUPER SHINY!!! Quick Detailer Prior to Drying

http://www.bilthamber.com/media/downloads/27/Waterless_2_.pdf
ive never used a QD before but I am now using the Bilt Hamber Auto QD on the recommendation of the article above. Seems to do the job, smells nice, comes in an aluminium bottle so it looks the business

I have only clayed my car once a couple of months ago. Sure I read somewhere it only needs done once or twice a year. I just couldn't face going through the whole wash / degrease / detar / clay / wash / polish / wax process more often than that

The car gets polished and waxed once a month or so though.

Detailing is a mine field of what is right and what is wrong - you should do this or that and use this super tub of unicorn spunk wax however you don't need to polish every month if you have done the full clean above. Just wash and top up wax every couple of months or so. Save some more time

I think that's what I'm planning to do. The car doesn't have much swirling at all at present. So a decent clean, then wax every so often should keep it going. Then I'll pay for a detail at the end of summer to prep the car for the winter months

The Bilt Hamber QD does seem to get some good marks. Although I'm looking for something to assist the drying of the car and add a little extra post wash shine. Maybe go for the Megs for a drying aid and the Bilt hamber or Sonax (as below) for a between wash sprucing.

Personally, for the detailer, I prefer the sonax. Has a nice coconut smell to it, as a bonus. I'll have it with me at zedfest, if you want a quick spritz.

I hadn't even considered zed fest, assumed I'd be too late to get tickets now?

Cheers Simon, the place looks great, and it's reflected by their prices :)

You get what you pay for after all.

Another quick question guys. If using QD between washes, should I just use my micofiber drying towels to apply/ buff, or should I purchase a finishing towel?

I don’t think it really is TBH…

I’ve been detailing for 18 years now, and I don’t do much differently than I used to.

Yes products and technology has moved on, but the actual steps etc are just the same.

I do agree however, that there is much more confusion in the market place, that’s down to a saturation of products, fake manufacturers that pretend they are something special when all they do is re-label things.. and also down to the new “professional” detailers that don’t really know their @rse from their Spanish archer.

I review a lot of detailers work, and there are still only a few, less than 5 detailers in the UK that I would allow to work on my car… and they are the ones that don’t really shout about the work they do… in this day and age it seems the louder you shout, the flashier your website, they better you are, and it’s just not true.

I do agree though, you do not polish a car every month – but that is the public term for adding wax, so to some people they do “polish” it every month…

At the end of the day, I usually find the people trying to make car washing difficult, or a mind field have something to gain from it… and usually it's money… ;)

Anyway, back to Quick detailers…. Lol

I use either Megs Last Touch or Autosmart Tango on “normal” cars, and Zaino Z6 or Definitive wax detailer on mine.

Also from the OP… no you do NOT need to use the same brand as your wax… not in any way, shape or form.

When using a QD I use a finishing towel to "buff up"

...but with Megs Ultimate QD I presume?

What towel/ cloth did you use Bing?

I'll get a snap later if I get a chance - tucked up in the garage till I get out later to go into London. Unfortunately I don't have any Ultimate right now, just used ordinary Megs QD I had left over from my clay bar experience a coupe of months ago.

I just used 2 (new) microfibre cloths from a bunch I got at Costco last year.

Edited to add the photo requested... Though it is fairly crap and has some porker type thing in the background

Allan ill give some of the Megs Ultimate QD next time we meet, theres not much left but I tend not to use it any more :D

I really liked Dodos Red Mist and plan to get some more but I have to get through all the Project 32 I brought

OK, so I've received my QD now. I went with Megs Ultimate Quick Detailer. I love it. Extremely easy to use and makes the paintwork feel very 'slippery'.

I just cleaned the car using the below method:

2 bucket method, with grit guard.

Rinsed
Washed with Dodo Juicd BTBM and Meguiars Lambswool Mitt
Rinsed
Dried with Chemical Guys Ultra Plush Microfiber towel
Meguiars Ultimate Quick Detailer (mist one panel at a time and dry with a waffle weave towel).

Anyway, so here are the results:

Didn't someone say above it's a bit sticky ?

Me? :P I thought I read on detailingworld that it can be sticky/greasy.

I like the look of the Red Mist, does it give a better shine than the megs ultimate?

I think if you are getting that sort of wet liquid look from Megs Ultimate Quick Detailer, it will be pretty hard to improve on. That looks pretty stunning!
