A few weeks ago I tried out my sun roof and it reluctantly worked after a couple of tries, now when I try and open it the windows go down but nothing else happens, does anyone have any ideas could it be the motor and is it an expensive repair?
Well I have found out today that it is the pump and motor that have gone due to water ingress and the cost of a replacement part is over 2.6K, this is from a local specialist as well not a dealer.Chippie said:It’s could be anything from a faulty sensor/micro switch to a broken wire, you would be better off trying a fault code scanner on it or taking it to your local garage for a diagnosis.
That's what they told me in the garage, I have emailed them to double check but they did say motor and pump were damaged :?matsmith749 said:Sure I saw these motors being sold as rebuilt units on ebay for something like £400?
Just checked - search e89 roof motor & there are tons available from reputable sellers. Are you certain you need the pump as well as the motor?
This is not as bad as you think.
You may be thinking E85?markplant said:There's several users on on here able to revive and relocate the existing motor,
For a fraction to the costs

I have found the part I need on ebay for just under 1k. However, I was wondering if the motor/pump used in another bmw model would fit as they seem much cheaper![]()

Well at that cost, I think I may be going somewhere else for a second opinion.

The cost is correct unfortunately, I got a price from bmw as well with a similar shock..... :?

Should there be any kind of roof drains that I need to look for in case they need unblocking as well do you know?Chippie said:If you use the search function on here and put in, roof motor strip, there are a few posts on removing the motor and drying it out, which got it working again.
