Summer or All Season Tyres - current thinking?

Getting ready for my first winter with the Z4M and starting to think about tyres.

I've had an M135i with all seasons before and it was fine. Wasnt sure what road to go down with the Z4M. I dont plan on driving in the snow and ice with the Z4M (for that I'll stick to the 330e with 4 wheel drive) but all other conditions I'm up for. I'm toying with all seasons for all year round (I may save up for a full set of spare wheels with other tyres at some later point).

I've seen some tyre reviews say that summer times are better in all conditions except snow/ice than all seasons. Some say all seasons are better in the wet. If I would like to drive in all conditions except snow and ice what would people suggest are the sorts of tyre that give the best grip? Ware rate is of a lesser concern and noise I really dont care about when shopping for tyres, grip and performance are the thing I'm interested in.

All-seasons generally perform better than summers below 7 degrees C.

So it comes down to whether it's more important to you to have the best possible grip in 7+ degrees conditions, versus 7 degrees or lower.

That’s a neat summary…

Depends where in the UK live and how much you want to go out on a damp / chilly day benefiting from the edge that all seasons / winters give…

When I had to entertain the possibility of having to go out on sub 7c days especially with any prospects of slush /ice I did had a set of all seasons for my E89s…very sure footed in such conditions..

Now I’m not obliged to ever go out in such conditions I’ve now sold that set of wheels..

You know I live in the same part of the world as you and tend to use my MC all year, but never when there is snow, ice or salt around!

I put winters on my 3 Series for that. :)

So I've only ever had Summers on my MC. In good weather when I use it more I don't think All Seasons would be quite as good.

The zed is my daily, between April and November, I run summer tyres and for the cold months all season tyres. We don't really get a lot of snow here in Yorkshire but it does get cold. If you plan to keep the car for long, get another set of aftermarket alloys and put some decent all season tyres on them Michelin Cross Climate 2, Continental AllSeasonContact 2 or Pirelli Cinturato Al Season.

Trying to put 500 Nm down with summer tyres on a frosty morning doesn't get the day off to a good start, with the Conti AllSeasons I really don't have to worry.
