All season tires or summer tires in the snow?

I'm kinda in a pinch here and I'm stuck driving my Z4 for the next 2 weeks in the snow.

I have 19" M6 replica wheels with SUMMER tires (90% tread remaining) and I also have the stock 18" wheels with all-seasons but 2 of them are nearly bald with about 10% tread remaining and the other 2 have about 40% tread remaining.

I drove home today with the 19" M6 reps on (summer tires) and it was an absolute nightmare. The yellow triangle was ON more time than it was off...LOL.

What wheels/tires should I go with for the next 2 weeks and common sense would tell me to put the all-seasons on and the better tires go on the REAR? Can someone confirm this for me?

Performance summer tire are about useless in the snow on any wheel...
This video which has been posted before should help.... :driving:

There is no such thing as an "All Season" tire. I recommend Hankook IceBear 300's on your OE's - best value out there IMO. I had 235/40's on my 18's all around so I could rotate.

Thanks for the link! Is this just for front wheel drive cars though?

Thanks, but I'm not looking to buy new tires. I'm just wondering what the best option is between what I already have. From what I gather I should put the all-season tires back on (mounted on the stock 18" wheels) with the better tires in the REAR.

I hope your best option is not a guardrail (Armco). Why play around with a car worth this much over a few hundred bucks? I would take cabs or public transit rather than the risk of all seasons in a North Country winter.

IMO, none of your options are any good. Below a thread of 6/32" any tire in the snow becomes near useless. You would be wise to buy some decent winter tires otherwise we may see you in the news for the wrong reasons. :(

Good luck.
