Stupid MPG Question.

Around town youll get 20-25 driving normally
On motorway youll get over 40mpg at the right speed around 65mph mark
I did 130 mile trip the other day 70% motorway rest where welsh fun roads and got 34mpg average
which if you think about it aint bad for 260bhp engine haha

Lots of people keep saying about this 40mpg on the motorway but I never get it. Stuck to 70mph the other week on a flat section of motorway for about an hour, and only go 32mpg.!! I'd reset the computer at the start also.
Do get 22-25 around town booting it thou, so I'm happy with that.

to give you a rough idea i put in £30 of 99 ron the other day computer said id get 180ish miles from it
i suppose it depends on a lot of factors youll easily get 30 mpg average out of a well looked after 3.0
Wheels will make a difference to 17s vs 19s ect weight of them tyres ect ect

I've noticed it does seem to vary with lots of people. I have a standard 3.0i, and daily to and from work driving in the city i get between 29mpg and 33mpg, depending on traffic. Motorway driving i always get 40mpg doing a steady 70-75. On my last motorway trip i reset the mpg counter as i started and got it up to a superb 45mpg!

I recently picked up my Z4 in Germany and had a 600 mile drive back to Denmark. Cruise control at 87 mph and mpg average was 30! Ok I guess for that kinda speed.
On a daily basis I'm at 23 mpg doing 80% of my driving in the city and the rest flooring it on b-roads

3 litre auto = 38mpg on motorways.
Yep, 40+ on motorways, typically the trip is at 35mpg when I fill up after mixed driving.
On our 3000km euro roadtrip last year it AVERAGED 38 including spirited mountain pass driving.
3.0i manual.
It really is a fabulous engine. Absolutely no need to even consider the 2.5l - just go straight for the 3.0i or 3.0iS

I use mine as a daily for a 40 mile trip to work and back, cold start queuing traffic for first five miles then some motorway sprinting then some soft nose to tail for last few miles - then return journey in the evening. These journeys give a constant 32mpg 3.0si N52
Occasional motorway trips to London 70 to 85 varied speed produces around 37 sometimes 38 but never more
Never seen 40 ever under any driving conditions
I do think the mileage I get is fantastic for a 3.0 265 BHP car though

This was the main reason I got a 3.0 more power and better economy.. Which really annoys my friend.
So the 3.0 gives better fuel economy then the 2.5l auto???

You can get 30 even 40 out of the 3.0 litre - but you wont! :evil:
On the transit up to Scotland (steady throttle) for the last Forum hoon I averaged 36mpg at legal limit +10%+1 (included 60 sections)
When I use my Zed for the weekend with my wife it can drop to 23mpg
Never used it for daily commuting but I think the differences between 2.5 and 3 litre will be minimal - both 6 cylinders. If you want economy go 2 litre 4 pot. Auto will effect mpg.

I suppose I have an ounce of trepidation about larger engined cars, I brought my mk2 tt 3.2 on a whim and suffered majorly on the fuel running costs (<20mpg).
Not because I couldn't afford to run it, rather I'm just a tight git! :roll:

Get the 3 litre 27 mpg for me mixed driving..................
27 mpg for me mixed driving..................Just come back from a 1600 mile trip around the Highlands in my 3.0i which involved lots of spirited driving b2b minimal motorway and it worked at around £320 in petrol. I think the highest price I paid per litre was £1.45, do the maths and it comes out at 33mpg, the car always surprises me on how economical it is.
