Am I being stupid?

Not arguing the case of which us the correct anchor point to use, however the top (non isofix mount) is bolted to the chassis with a 6mm bolt.

Under the worst circumstances it would take around 900 ft lb of torque to shear it..I would suggest this is slightly in excess of "barely strong enough to hold a fag packet."

Well the fag packet comment maybe extreme but the 6mm bolt is irrelevant as this tie down is hinged, which is certainly not strong enough.

Here is the now infamous "lashing eye"
51479167011 #13 on your bingo card. #15 is the cover surrounding the item OP was asking about, suggesting the "hook" is fixed to the body/chassis. AKA anchor point.

As for should kids be in the car? Why not, if secured. My market is OK with it, suggesting the necessary ISOFIX standards which apply, but Canada....

For Canadian Customers only
The following statement is required by Transport
Canada
This vehicle is not equipped with user-ready
tether anchorages. As such neither a child restraint
system, nor a booster cushion, requiring
the use of a tether strapcan be properly secured
in the vehicle.

For me this "eye" is on my list of useless items in the E89, up there with the useless cup holders tucked inside a useful arm rest, and the phone snap in connector which was probably obsolete as soon as the ink dried on the designer's drawing board.

Ahh ok so it’s a top anchor for a child seat…strange,

No it's not

Check pages 45 & 46 of the Handbook.

"Do not use a child restraint with ISOFIX top tether"

Waiting for pages 45 & 46, or are you still looking for the toys you threw out of your pram?
