Stuff I dislike about the Z4

E89 drivers never wave back at us lowly E85 drivers?

Any acknowledgment between Z4 drivers tends to be limited in my experience.
I’ve often been left feeling like a chump after waving.

I’d give you a special wave Ronk

The 3/4 rear view is bad but marginally better on the E89
I’ve not noticed this at all, probably because with the driving assistance package you get a warning in the mirrors

That would be a great help for me as I had neck surgery a few years ago c3/4 & 5/6 so normal neck rotation is more limited these days, I’ve learned to deal with it but it’s not easy.

[ref]B21[/ref], just checked the length against the brochure and it should be 4324 with the error on the front overhang which is 907, which is nearly half an inch and the height is 1304, which does not probably include any lowering for adaptive or MSport suspension if it's lowered (nothing in the brochure) :D
[ref]ronk[/ref], The mirrors are really good too.

Back on the E89 thread..

At various times I’ve cursed BMW with the same questions of why?

Overall I think they got it pretty well spot on, given that the car has to be built with mostly the then production parts and technologies.

People tend to forget that there is a cost trade off with all these things.

I wish they had used more metal in various things like cam box covers, and other heat soaked items. Plastics age and get brittle but that applies to all modern cars.

There is a healthy third part market so upgrades and mods are relatively easy to do.

A friends old Porsche 944 has so many parts now obsolete, cam shafts, bumpers that it’s difficult to keep it on the road.

To be honest, in many ways I preferred my MR2 Roadsters to any of my Z4's (E85 or E89). Unfortunately, they are let down by a terrible engine and aesthetics (inside and out) that are so bad SWMBO forbids me from owning one.

Some years back I had a 2002 MR2 and have to say I really don't miss that car one bit, it was so unrefined and made long journeys a pain especially with the roof down.

Had two over ten years, both were Daily drivers and I couldn’t disagree more tbh, especially the 6 speed facelift.

Everyday boring journeys were a bit of a chore, especially with the lack of noise insulation and the engine right behind your head. Not the best car for early morning commutes in winter. Definitely not refined IMO, but that was kind of the point.

On the other hand, I drove one of them from the alps to Exeter in 12 hours and absolutely loved it. The drive to the alps took 3 days (driving up to 16 hours per day) and was probably the most fun I've had in a car. For £900 (+£200 to replace the inevitably budget, worn, old and mismatched tyres) it was the perfect Buy/Enjoy/Scrap/Repeat car.

Very different experience to a BMW and probably not a car most Z drivers should ever even contemplate.

My day shift has me leaving the house at 4 am, 40 mile motorway commute to work and found the roadster absolutely fine for it.

Thinking about it the one thing I dislike about the Z4 unlike all other BMWs I have had in the past you cannot unlock the boot with the key fob whilst the doors are locked.
Nor indeed can you open the boot with the key in the ignition (unless I'm missing something). Tedious when going through customs checks.
On my e89 just below the hazard warning lights button on the dash, there is a button with a key motive on it , this unlocks the boot with the fob in and even withthe engine running

Yip, if the car is locked and this is pressed it will unlock both doors, the boot and the fuel flap.
