Stuff I dislike about the Z4

As much as I I enjoy it, there are a few gripes that I have about this car.

Firstly, what's with the sun visors? They are tiny! And cannot be moved to the side. They are fixed and only up/down is allowed.

Secondly, what's with the headlamps. On other vehicles, one can adjust the headlamps from inside the car. Usually a roller wheel type adjuster to raise or lower the headlamps. Nothing of the sort here.

What else have you noticed?

As far as I’m aware all E89’s have self levelling headlights and have no need for manual intervention.

I agree about the sun visors, they also bloody creak and rattle too.

Headlights, as stated they are self-levelling. This is because they are Xenon (HID) and require to have an automatic adjustment to keep them level, thus you are not allowed to self adjust them (yes you can at the headlight with the screw adjusters etc). Cars that come with manual adjustment are not Xenon.

Small visors are due to the low roofline, cars with a higher roofline have deeper sunvisors, this is the same with other manufacturers that I've had in the past.

Now if we are going down the niggles route, how about the heater vents for your feet? They point, approx, juat above the ankle and not at your feet, thus your feet are still cold when you have the roof down in the winter!! (1st world problems!!) :D

Nice to know!
I've been updated!

I must say that I've not noticed this.
I had the top down on Monday (2 days ago) with 4.5C temperature and heating cranked up to 24C.

All was good. Did not notice a problem with the feet.

But now that you have mentioned it, I probably will next time!

Come to think about it, other convertibles have a heated head scarf option. Was this an option with the Z4??

No, not offered, even on new build G29’s one feature/option I think should be a must on a car like this

No dislikes, happily the sun visor on the E85's moves around, though mine, on the passenger side, does creak a bit on those rare occasions the roof is up. The sport button is a waste of time on the ///M cars though.

If you're worried about the sun in your eyes, you probably shouldn't have a convertible! :poke:

The worst thing about the sun visors I how hard they snap back up - the vanity mirror in my first E89 smashed just from closing.

Would be nice to have a digital speed read out in addition to the duals, my Focus from the same year has one...

How about this then.... https://id4motion.shop/products/bmw-z4-e89-digital-cluster?gclid=Cj0KCQiAip-PBhDVARIsAPP2xc0-DHDZN3CUjgKgjuxbU47pVU_mafgt8ZbBFvLfHrns0CyDu8Po7C4aAlh_EALw_wcB&variant=41105980555415

This can be done. I did it with Carly. Probably the second or third thing i changed.

It may be possible to do manually but not sure how.

On the e90 i also have a HUD unit that i purchased from Amazon. It's quite useful as it shows digital speed readout, battery voltage, oil temp and other stuff.

They look great - doesn't look like there is an option available for the e85/86 (presumably difficult to implement with the dash layout). I wonder if an e89 dash could be made to fit.....

The pointy window glass.
Yes this could take an eye out if not careful
But then again if you double press the unlock button the window goes down more than half way to get it out of your way

I believe the purpose of the air scarf is to keep the neck warm. Failing to do this could lead to cooling of the blood supply to the brain, causing potential long term damage.
I reckon BMW realised that once someone had decided a fat old G29 was a good successor to the E85 then the damage was already done. :poke: :fuelfire: :D
