Stuck CD/DVD in NAV unit.

Help,

I know this has been covered before as I got the instructions from this board, but I've a couple of questions about the details;

To remove a stuck DVD/CD in the NAV unit (MKIV) you usually hold the eject button for 3 minutes, then press it again. I can't get this method to work though, questions are;
1) What should the light be doing during this time, for mine it's a steady on and doesn't do anything at the end of 3 minutes.
2) Should the door be open or closed? (I know it makes a difference to some procedures)

If not I'll have to pull the power cables and re-introduce with the eject button held down (presume I'll need two people for this...)

Ta :)

I did the latter with someone else when their disk was stuck. Negative lead off the battery, I put it back on whilst the other person was pressing the eject button. Disc came out straight away.

Darn it, I'd best find myself a friend then!

put the roof down, drivers door open, flap open, then disconnect the battery and reconnect and quickly press that eject button, it';s what I did and it worked.

This is beginning to sound like a Monty Python sketch. :)

Anyway, as all real men know, every problem in life can be resolved used sufficient yardage of duct tape.

With that in mind I have appropriated the little plastic flap off the OBDC port (under the dash, drivers side) and duct taped it to the eject button, forcing it to be pressed. After the ECU shuts down after about 15 minutes I would imagine the power from the NAV unit will be totally removed.

Hopefully, when I return to the car later this evening and unlock it, the NAV unit will be given power again and it'll spit the DVD out due to the eject button being duct taped down whilst the power is re-applied.

Well, it may work :)

Younger then Taz :D

Isn't everyone younger than Taz?

(we can say things about him now, he should be in Turkey by now!)

And I have sad news. The duct tape trick did not work. This is a sad day, my faith in the force (as it has a light side and a dark side and holds the universe together) is weakened slightly :(

Was that with the battery off?

Nope, I was hoping that when it pulled the power off after 15 mins of the car being locked that it'd be enough to make it do the eject.

Looks like there's probably a full time positive feed to the Nav unit so it's never quite gone in to full sleep, I'll have to pull the battery off tommorrow and sort it out properly.

It's been off for about 2 weeks now and I'm beginning to miss having the Nav :)

The 15 minute shutdown was never going to work, you need the reset that only happens when you disconnect the battery.

Ahh, I'll do that in the morning then, ta! :)

Hi guys!

Sorry to bring back old posts like this but...

I just wondered if this last trick worked out !

Have the same problem here, and I could not find any other topic in this forum on the subject (as mentioned in first post of this topic)

Help ! :)

Erk, I don't recall now - I think it must have as I certainly got the DVD out in the end :)

I did mine on my own, just ensure your roof is down (soft top) and leave the door open and flap down to minimize lost time.
