Strut Front Bar

Think mines an Ultra racing dynamics one so of no use whatsoever to you.....

I’ve no doubt they work on the E89 though.

"A forum search suggests that a front strut brace is like a K&N Filter. One adds weight, the other noise, but both to no benefit."

That assumes, of course, that you already have and have checked for tightness the two diagonal strut braces, from bulkhead to towers, that BMW put in.

I get your point, but you don't have one installed and experienced first hand

But reading the rest of that thread leads one to believe that you are wrong, and the the strut brace certainly does have benefits?

And as has been said, you have no actual experience yourself?

Nay, nay Mr Wilks,

He's posted this a few times now, so he must have a good reason (or experience) of why he thinks that strut braces are a bad idea?

I wrote: "A forum search suggests ... ".

Personally, I have (a) no experience of after-market strut braces, but as long as (b) they're installed properly (which may be more complex than just bolting them to the towers), (c) can be tensioned after installation, (d) don't damage the bonnet and (e) allow easy access to the engine, then (f) they seem like a good idea (and, even if they don't work, they look cool).

That said, I'm going to check the tightness of the two diagonal braces that BMW have already installed.

As for mr wilks, he's not forgiven me for criticising him for something he said and so pokes fun at me now and then. Hopefully, we shall both survive.

Strut braces can be more complex than just plate-brace-plate, of course. So, for example, some have a release design that allows one side of the brace to be detached from its plate and swung up and out of the way for work to be done on the engine, with the obvious advantage of not having to unbolt the brace from its towers.

Others have this with or without length adjustment that allows for the main section of the brace to be centred and for tension from tower to tower to be altered.

Whether a rear brace is viable on the E89, I don't know, though.
