Stone Chip in Windshield

While driving home last night on the highway, I got hit with a rock in the Windshield. It made two chips right next to each other. One has a star pattern and is about 1/2" in diameter. The other looks like and is about the size of the tip of your small fingernail. Both chips look much worse from the inside than from the outside.

My insurance fully covers glass damage inluding replacement if needed, but I am leaning towards a repair if possible. Any thoughts out there?

Repair on cracks that big isn't really ideal, they won't be gone, the cost is still put onto your insurer who will increase the premium because of it etc.

Best to just pay the small fee and get a nice new screen. At 3 years I guess yours might still look like new, but if it's got general road rash/wiper marks it'll be nice to have a decent replacement fitted :) (rain sensor replaced too if that is on it's way out!)

I had two small spots repaired and they look terrible.

Also my windshield is all scratched and funky. Not really scratched but spotty looking.

I say get the new windshield.
But be careful you could get another chip on the way home!!

I just talked to the repair service and they said that it could not be repaired anyway, so it will be replacement. I spoke with the installer recommended by my dealer and they have set it up with my insurance company (using BMW OEM glass). They will bill my insurance company directly and even provide me with a loaner car for the day, so I guess this will be about as painless as possible.

Hammer - Break Screen & pay the excess!

No need, so far I have not gotten any pushback from my insurance company to replace the windshield with no out of pocket costs to me at all. They did not even resist using BMW OEM glass. So far this all going too easy ... I am still waiting for some complication to turn up and mess the up the whole deal.
